Torn from the Inside

Goku and Gohan

I OWN NOTHING except the nonexistent plot and dialogue :)

The young boy gazed up at his father, putting on this façade that he was actually fine with his father's death. Possibly, the fact that would be alive in another realm, but not with them is what damaged the boy's heart.

"I'll never have somebody with me… no one who understands me. And when I go to bed, I have no one to say goodnight to. When I wake up, I'm alone. Mom doesn't get it, Dad! I need you; you can't leave. Please. What am I supposed to do?"

Defeated, the boy dropped his head to his chest.

"Son, Gohan, you can do it. I know you can. You're my son; you're strong."

The man took his right hand and created an energy beam that revolved within his palm. Its glow cast shadows on the boy's face, darkening his tear rimmed eyes.

"But it's my entire fault, Dad! You wouldn't be gone if I wasn't so… sure in myself. I should have listened to you."

"Gohan, it's for the best. If I came back, I would jeopardize the entire earth's future. I could never do that. It would mean putting you, Chi-Chi, Krillin and the others in harm's way."

"I don't care. I need you! Why don't get that?"

"Son, listen to me! I will see you again, I promise."

"Like you promised that you would never leave mom and I? That promise… the ones you always go back on?"

"I'm never really gone. I'm always going to be there for you and your mother. That is one promise that I will never break, Gohan. Don't you realize how bad this is hurting me? I want to be there, with you, Chi-Chi, and all of our friends. I don't want to be dead, but I need to be."

For his father to openly say that he was dead and never going to be resurrected again broke Gohan. The young saiyan went to wrap his arms around his father's torso, but Goku's body was rapidly becoming transparent. Gohan continued to try to touch his intangible father, but failed miserably. The halo abruptly appeared atop Goku's head.

"Dad!" he screeched. "I miss you already." Gohan had a torrent of tears pouring down his face, and his body was quivering slightly.

Goku smiled. He said softly, "I miss you too, buddy."

Um. First Dragonball Z one shot. It was no particular scene, seeing as Goku dies so often :)
