Join me on the rampage, maybe one day we'll sip champagne. The Horizon – All The Young

Ian's a dreamer. Mickey knows this for certain. He's known since he first saw Ian. He had him pegged down as one. One of those who thinks everyone in the world is trustworthy and is then surprised when they turn out not to be. One of those who thinks life is just peachy, when it's not. Ian's one of them, always thinking that things will get better, the sun will shine and tomorrow will be a fresh new day. Mickey's not like that. He's the complete opposite, if anything. Maybe that's why they fit together so well. Because Ian needs someone to pull him back to the earth when he starts to fly and Mickey, as much as he loathe to admit it, needs someone to allow him to dream, to tell him he can dream, he can hope, even if there's no way on earth that it'll come true.

Mickey sometimes catches himself wishing that he can give Ian what he wants. He wants Ian to fly, to be free, to drag him up instead of Mickey pulling him down. This is one of the few times Mickey allows himself to dream, when he's lying next to Ian after a round of sex. Ian is often asleep during this time and sometimes Mickey is too. But, most of the time, he lies there, next to Ian, relaxed and happy. He doesn't mind the way Ian sniffles in his sleep, or how he unconsciously curls into Mickey's body, seeking warmth. Mickey finds himself welcoming these moments, peaceful and quiet, giving him time to think. He often, during these moments, thinks of his relationship with Ian. It's complicated, to say the least. Ian's a dreamer and Mickey's not. Occasionally, Mickey finds himself wishing he were a dreamer, so he and Ian could fly together. They could go anywhere, do anything, and, maybe, Mickey could stop being ashamed of being gay (he's admitted it to himself, that's a step in the right direction, isn't it?). That's the thing he dreams about most. Being unashamed and able to be a good boyfriend to Ian. Because, and Mickey will only ever admit this to himself, that's what he dreams of being.

Ian's a dreamer and Mickey's not so much of one, but they fit and maybe that's why.
