Michael POV

She doesn't need to know

I watch Sara stir. She opens her eyes and I know all she can see is darkness.

She sits up. Michael? Michael? I hear she's frightened. I reach out and pull her next to me. Calm down, I'm here, I say. I immediately feel her snuggle against my shoulder. How did you know where in the room I was? She asks confused. I could hear by your voice, I make up.

She doesn't need to know that I can see everything in this darkness because I have been locked up in a dark room like this before. For a very long time. She doesn't need to know I'm scared as hell that the door will open and I'll get beaten again, just like before.

Linc will get us out, I'm sure he has figured out where we are by now. I try to sound sure of myself but I'm not sure Lincoln will make it this soon.

As on cue I hear some fiddling with the lock. I tense up and hope and hope Sara doesn't notice. The door opens and I immediately recognize the big form of Lincoln. I get up and lead Sara to the light, avoiding a few boxes on the way. As soon as we get into the light, I see Lincoln and I know he knows. Lincoln holds Sara back as she tries to go after me when I walk away.

I walk around the corner and feel the bile rising in my throat. I throw up as memories intrude my thought and make me live my youth once again. When I'm down I sit down, still a little distraught. I know Sara will want an explanation when I get back to her but she'll only worry when I tell her the truth. So for now, she doesn't need to know.

Sara POV

I feel myself wake from a deep slumber. I open my eyes and see nothing but darkness. I remember. I'm still in the same dark room I've been in for the past week. It's starting to get to me and I want company. I call for Michael. I hear him move and I feel his hand go directly to my shoulder. It makes me wonder if he can see something…

I ask him how he knew where I was and when I hear his answer I'm sure he's lying. I can hear it by the sound of his voice and there's no way he directly reached my shoulder just by hearing my voice. I smile as he tries to reassure me Linc will be here to save us. He's always there to make me feel safe.

A sound comes from the door and he tenses up and his heartbeat speeds up. I notice he tries to hide it but he can't hide something like that from me anymore. I decide to ask about it when we're out. He gets up and leads me to the light, avoiding a few things from which I later see were boxes. There's no doubt now: he can see in this darkness! We get out and I see the brothers share a look and as he let's go of my hand Lincoln looks at me with worry. I want to go to Michael when I see him leave but Lincoln won't let me. He needs some time, he mumbles. I look into Lincoln's eyes again. I see… Lincoln knows what's wrong with Michael and I'll need to find out on my own, once again.
