Ordinary Extraordinary

by Tomoyo-chan

The short bits are lyrics from the song 'Extraordinary Ways' by Conjure One. Obviously I was listening to it while I wrote this. If you can find it, listen while reading this, it gives it a nice tone.

On an ordinary day the extraordinary way you take what I can give and you treasure it

Body and soul and the way that you know

Ever since loosing his body, almost loosing himself in the process, Riku hadn't felt right in his body. He grabbed so desperately onto it, especially after loosing his own appearance, but he also felt he didn't have the ability, even the right to hold on to it. A body was important, but his wasn't; it was tainted. Almost as much as his heart.

That was why he hid, why he ran, why he threw himself in front of a blow without thinking. He was damaged, but they were still pure.

The choice that cost me everything and set somebody else free.

That was why, the day that Kairi came to him and kissed him, he again ran. She couldn't - shouldn't - like tainted him when she still had pure Sora. Sora found him half an hour later, hiding on the roof.

He didn't say anything, but Sora seemed to know anyway. Maybe Kairi had told him. "We always competed over her, and maybe you lost, but it's her choice." So the next day, he went back to Kairi and shyly gave her a kiss of his own.

It hadn't been much of a surprise around the island when they started dating - though Selphie expressed confusion that it wasn't Sora, but it wasn't all that unexpected for her either.

Every time I forget those things you bring them back to me.

Every kiss they exchanged every moment spent together he hesitated, looked for any sign she wanted to leave. She was pure, and he was, at best, shadow. But she never looked askance. She in fact went out of the way to prove her feelings for him. Every lingering look, every kiss, even the way she would reach out just to hold his hand, they all were touches of heart to heart, of light to encroaching dawn.

And then one morning, six months later, she turned to him in the pre-dawn light over the island and whispered "I love you, body and soul." He paused, frozen in place looking out at where the sun would soon rise. A brief touch of her hand released him from her spell, turning to face her. The look in her eye forestalled any words but the all important ones.

"I love you, too."

~End

First full story in quite a while, if a bit short. Originally Kairi wasn't supposed to have such a large role, but then she hijacked the story. It always sounded strange when other's said that, but now I know it's true. Also, ending seriously? Where were you going with this? No idea. ~Tomoyo-chan
