"Captain?" Jack asked looking into the dark lab belonging to his second in command.

There was no answer; he turned to leave when he heard a distinct sniff.

"Carter, I can hear you." He said turning back to the room.

She still hadn't answered him but now he could hear her sobbing, he used the noise to guide himself to her. She was sat on the cold floor with her knees pulled up to her chest and her forehead resting on them. Jack slowly sat down next to her. He sat on a book, picking it up he could see it was Jonas's bible.

"So, you going to tell me why you're sitting on the floor of your lab in the dark, crying your eyes out?" He asked with a fair idea of what it was.

Sighing, he crossed his right ankle over his left and leant on the wall waiting for her to make the first move.

"I'm sorry." He eventually heard her whisper.

"Sorry, for what?"

"For crying." She was still talking into her legs and her voice was muffled.

"Don't be Carter, crying is good for you. It's not healthy to bottle everything up."

"It doesn't seem to effect you."

"I cry Carter, not as often as I should and never at the right time, but I do." He looked at her, still with her head buried into her knees. "So are you going to shed any light onto this situation of do I have to guess?"

She didn't answer.

"Okay then, I'm guessing it has something to do with our last mission." He paused. "Probably about Jonas Hanson, could it be killing Jonas Hanson or not killing Jonas Hanson?"

"It's not about killing or not killing him. Not really." Sam looked up at him, the light from the corridor dimly reflected off the tears in her blue eyes.

"That bruise is coming along nicely." Jack said referring to where Jonas had backhanded her.

She sniffed and the tears started to fall again.

"God Carter, that's what this is about? Why didn't you say anything?" He scooted closer to her and wiped away the tears from her cheeks. "He hit you before didn't he?"

"Yes, at the time I thought it was an accident, he lost his temper a lot and just flipped that one time. But it happened again, after we were engaged and I moved in with him he just became this totally different person."

He moved his arm up and around her shoulders, she moved turning into his chest and crying again.

"Shh, it's okay Sam. We all make mistakes, his was hurting you."

He placed a kiss on her hair and they stayed like that for a while until Sam had calmed down.

"I guess it all just came screaming back." She said.

"Yeah, things have a bad habit of doing that. If I knew what that git had done I would have shot him, well at least beat the living day lights out of him the first time I laid eyes on him."

"That's good to know Sir."

"I think you handled the situation very professionally on the planet, I'm proud of you Carter." He removed his arm from her shoulders and flicked through the bible.

"Jonas was quite religious, we always went to church on Sundays. I started to loose faith when such a good guy could hurt someone."

"Never loose faith Carter, it's the one thing that can save you. It doesn't matter what you have faith in just as long as you have it. For example, I have faith that you will bounce back from this experience even if it involves taking your mind off it with chocolate or that blue Jello you are always eating."

Sam smiled. "I think its safe to say that that is a pretty good faith Sir."

"So what do you have faith in Carter?"

"I have faith in you Sir." She said. "And Daniel and Teal'c."

"That's more like it. Now captain, get your ass in gear, its Jello time!" He said jumping to his feet and pulling her with him.
