Spock walked to the center of the place of kun-ut kali-fi and rang the ceremonial gong once to show his arrival. After a pause, he rang it a second time to signal his readiness for the ceremony to commence. The marriage party entered, led by T'Pau, the Matriarch of Spock's clan, followed by Spock's parents, and his and Christine's friends, James Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Nyota Uhura, and Janice Rand. After the marriage party had all taken their places, Spock approached T'Pau and they gave each other the ta'al, followed by a brief mind meld to confirm pon farr had arrived.
Spock introduced his and Christine's friends to T'Pau, "I present our friends, Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Yeoman Janice Rand and I am sure you remember Captain James T. Kirk and Doctor Leonard McCoy."
She welcomed them all with a slight nod of her head then said, "What you are about to see comes down from the time of the Beginning. This is the Vulcan heart, this is the Vulcan soul -- this is our way. ---- Kali farr!"
After a reasonable pause, Spock rang the ceremonial gong a third time to signal the beginning of the marriage ceremony. Spock and Christine came forward and stood before T'Pau, then they knelt before the Matriarch who placed her hands on their katra points, entering into a mind meld with them. T'Pau completed the marriage bond then took a lettered wedding sash and put it around Spock's neck. Spock and Christine stood up and T'Pau looked at Spock and said, "Repeat after me . . . I, Spock, pledge my soul to protect the life of my mate."
"I, Spock, pledge my soul to protect the life of my mate."
"She who is part of me."
"She who is part of me."
"She who will never be parted from me."
"She who will never be parted from me."
"As it is from today, for all our tomorrows."
"As it is from today, for all our tomorrows."
"Eternally mine, she will be, and mine alone."
"Eternally mine, she will be, and mine alone."
T'Pau turned to Christine. "Repeat after me . . . I, Christine, pledge my life to honor that of my bondmate."
"I, Christine, pledge my life to honor that of my bondmate."
"He who is part of me."
"He who is part of me."
"He who will never be parted from me."
"He who will never be parted from me."
"As it is from today, for all our tomorrows."
"As it is from today, for all our tomorrows."
"Eternally mine, he will be, and mine alone."
"Eternally mine, he will be, and mine alone."
Then Spock and Christine knelt before T'Pau again. "Spock, take the left hand of thy wife in thy left hand." Spock did as she asked. T'Pau leaned forward and removed the lettered sash from around Spock's neck. Then T'Pau recited a few words before wrapping the sash around the joined hands. After wrapping it around twice she placed her hands, one hand on top and the other underneath. T'Pau once again spoke the ancient ritual words, "As it was in the beginning, as it is today, as it will be tomorrow; the wedding of Spock and Christine has been witnessed and recorded according to tradition." She unwrapped the sash and placed it back around Spock's neck. Spock stood up and extended his hand to assist Christine to stand up.
"Welcome, Christine to the clan of Surak and may you bring a new meaning to the house of Sarek . . . Pon farr!"
That was the signal for all guests to exit the place of kun-ut kali-fi, except for Spock, Christine, T'Pau, her litter bearers and the hooded guard. Spock and Christine entered the place of mating, a secret bedroom in a nearby cave. T'Pau, her litter bearers and the hooded guard made themselves comfortable outside the secret room in case a difficulty should arrive during the consummation of the marriage. Thirty minutes later they left to go to their homes.
