Blaine's attention, originally directed towards the Council's table, was drawn to the double doors as Kurt entered, dressed all in black.

As Kurt began to speak and tell the Warblers that Pavorotti had died, possibly from a stroke, Blaine's heart ached for Kurt. He knew what Pavorotti had meant to him, the responsibility he had felt for the bird. For a while, Kurt had probably felt that Pavorotti had been his only friend. Now, he was dead.

As Kurt handed off an old cassette tape and the opening strains of the Beatles' "Blackbird" began to play, Blaine watched as Kurt stood poised to sing, hands clasped behind his back.

He's so pure, thought Blaine.

As Kurt moved about the room, tears streaming down his face, Blaine stopped singing back-up just so he could stare at the beautiful boy pouring his heart out in song.

Kurt's seen me through thick and thin, Blaine found himself thinking. He's been a true friend, even when I was at my worst, such as with the 'Gap Attack.' Even when he confessed his feelings for me on Valentine's Day, even on countless other occasions where I was an oblivious idiot!

Kurt paused to look out the window. Blaine was taken back to Kurt's audition, standing by the window and singing "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina."

This is the Kurt I first met, the one who isn't afraid to put himself out there, damn the consequences. This is the Kurt who's vulnerable, yet possesses a courage that I lack.

Blaine continued to watch Kurt, a steady stream of thoughts crowding his brain.

He tries too hard. That was what was wrong with his audition and when he was practicing 'sexy' faces. When there's no thought behind his actions, he's completely natural.

It was as if a light bulb had gone off inside his head.

I love Kurt. He's the one, and he's been right in front of me all this time! How could I have been so blind?

As soon as Blaine realized that he loved Kurt, another thought popped into his head, I have to tell him! But how?

Through song, how else? came a little voice inside Blaine's head.

Of course! Blaine thought. But it has to say something. It can't just be one of the current top hits. I need a song that's more…emotional.

Blaine's eyes refocused on the scene before him in time to hear Kurt thank everyone for their support. He followed Kurt's movements with a slight turn of his head, watching as Kurt left the way he had come. Blaine wasn't far behind, heading for his room to research songs. He had a plan: he would propose that the Warblers change his solo to a duet for Regionals and he would insist that Kurt be the only one to sing with him.

There you are, Blaine said to himself as he strode with purpose down the hallway, his thoughts of Kurt. I've been looking for you forever.

Although they'd lost Regionals, Blaine wasn't disappointed. He had Kurt, and that was enough. Holding out his hand for Kurt to take, Blaine had never been more grateful to Pavorotti. As sad as his death was, the events that followed had led Blaine to seeing Kurt in a different light, and given him the courage to take their friendship to a new level—that of boyfriends.
