A little hide and seek Zax fic, encouraged by the group chat, so here you are…
Zoe stood outside in her usual smoking spot, a cigarette fuming in one hand, a soft hand on her shoulder took her almost immediately out of her trance. It was Max.
"Look Zo, I've been meaning to say this, I never have because I couldn't bottle up enough courage, but I have to say it one day because I can see the way it hurts us to live like this, a paradox from one another," Max took a deep breath, Zoe looking deep into his eyes.
"You hurt me Zoe, so badly that I never thought I be able to talk to you again, but you know what, I love you too much. I love you far too much to ever let you go, and you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I believe, that in time, we will get over this and we can have a proper party, to replace our wedding. A party where we can be well and truly peaceful, a party where all our friends can share the same happiness, the same smiles. A party where we can be truly happy, because that's all I want, you to be happy,".
"Oh Max, I don't know what to say," a tear fell from Zoe's face.
"You don't have to say anything Dr Hanna," and with that final word, Max leant in with a truly passionate kiss. It was the sweetest and most powerful kiss they had ever shared, locking their love for all eternity, and finally reaching happiness.
As they finally pulled away, Zoe looked straight at Max.
"I love you so much Max, I have missed you," Zoe whispered.
"I have missed you too, Mrs Walker," Max smiled.
"Does this mean we're back together," Zoe responded.
"We were never apart," Max replied, however as soon as he did, he pulled away.
"But, before I can fully forgive you…," Max leant in again and tapped Zoe's arm, "You're on! Hide and seek," Max smiled his cheeky smile before running off back into the ED to hide.
Zoe stood there for a moment, smiling at herself. She dropped her cigarette and paced quickly back inside to find her husband.
She had honestly been looking for at least half an hour when she reached the staff room for the 10th time, she popped her head around the door, once again shouting the name Max.
"No Max in here, just old Charlie Fairhead," the nurse chuckled.
"Do you know where he is? I... umm have a patient in resus that needs taking up to x-ray", Zoe shuffled her feet, trying not to give away the face that she was actually playing hide and seek.
"Playing hide and seek are we?" Charlie smiled, Zoe repeating his expression.
"Well then," Zoe spoke sarcastically, "Have you seen him?".
"I think he went upstairs," Charlie winked and then finally laughed, he could see that Zoe was once again her normal self, happy and cheerful. The confident Dr Hanna.
Once Zoe reached her office, she was almost ready to give up, when she heard low music being played from inside and dim lights flickering. She walked in, immediately taking in the strong but comforting smile of coffee.
She made her way over to her desk and then finally smiled, she bent down to be greeted by Max.
"Well hello there, Mrs Walker," Max smiled, he was tucked away under the desk, two Curly Wurlys on the floor and coffee I his hands, he was also surrounded by a beautiful arrangement of candles and a soft maroon blanket. He pulled Zoe under the table and passed her the chocolate, grinning at his efforts.
"This is lovely Max," Zoe smiled and leant into his shoulder, where they stayed for moments until Zoe moved and placed her hand on his knee.
"Found you!"
