Snowy proudly presents her big Halloween story! No, it probably won't be done by Saturday, but I figure we can extend Halloween because who doesn't love it? I apologize for this chapter's shortness, but it's kind of like an intro so it's short on purpose. The other chapters will be longer. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not, and never will, own FullMetal Alchemist.

It was cold and dark and wet on the night of January 30th in eastern Amestris. Colonel Roy Mustang sat in his car glowering out the window. He had been leaving his office on his way home, having finally finished his paperwork, when he received a call stating that a body, or rather, the outline of one splattered in blood on a wall at the end of an alley. When he asked why investigations couldn't just handle it, the reply had been that there was a certain small blond at the scene who was his responsibility.

"It's so cruel." Lieutenant Hawkeye murmured, staring out the window at the crime scene. Mustang spotted his wayward young subordinate with his hands on the bloodied wall, obviously upset.

"We're state alchemists, the military's human weapons. We have to distance ourselves from emotional attachments in order to serve. This is the path we have chosen." Mustang said.

"With respect, that is the reasoning of an adult, but those boys are just children." She stated. Mustang sighed and got out of the car, stepping into the drizzly night and approaching Edward.

"Brother." Alphonse murmured, placing a large metallic hand on his brother's shoulder. Ed turned to face Mustang as he approached.

"Let it go Edward. You knew full well the things you would see when you chose this life. From here they only get worse. You had a goal, still have a goal; you can't just drop everything for every little lost cause. Get up and move on." Mustang said, watching the boy's face shift in various stages of misery and anger. It came as no surprise when the boy lunged at him clumsily.

"It's up to the investigations department now, step aside." He growled, sidestepping the young alchemist's attack.

Ed glared at the man before running off through the investigations officers. Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes watched the boy run off before facing his comrade.

"This the work of that serial killer we've been tracking Mustang?" Hughes asked, glancing at the crimson outline on the alley wall.

"No," Mustang replied, shaking his head slightly for emphasis, "That guy only goes for women, and besides, this thing wasn't carved up."

"It almost looks like it's been blown up from the inside." Hughes noted.

"Similar to the reports from Central of those state alchemist killings." Added one of the other investigations officers.

"What reports?" Questioned Mustang.

"Some guy going after state alchemists, real elusive, the only thing anybody knows about him is that he's gat a big scar on his forehead." Explained the officer, "Killed three alchemists so far."

Hughes and Mustang looked at each other.

"State Alchemist killer?"
