Ion Nin (My Son)

Elrond lazily picked through the paper work on his desk. This was not how he wanted to spend his afternoon. He thought about give it all to Erester and telling him to forge his signature, but he was afraid Erester would take advantage of that. A little too much Dorwinion wine (which just happened to be Erester's favorite) would show up with the supplies.

Elrond's thoughts, nowhere near the paper in front of him, were interrupted when his office door was thrown open and a small curly headed boy rushed in.

"Oh, I am sorry. I did not know anyone was in here."

"This is my office, Estel, what do need from here?"

Estel grinned, heedless of the lecture the Elf lord was ready to give. I am hiding from Dan and Ro. They are supposed to come find me, but they will never look for me in here."

"Esteeel?" Elladan's sing song voice floated down the hall. "Where are yoooou?"

Estel squeaked. Not sure what to do, he looked between the open door and the elf lord.

The boy's enthusiasm was contagious. "Quick come here." Elrond motioned the boy to him. Scooting back just a bit in his chair he revealed a hollow space under his desk. Estel slipped in just as Elladan popped his head into the room.

"Ada?" Elrond looked up from his desk where he was supposedly studying a paper rather intently. "Have you seen, Estel?"

"Is the child missing?" Elrond asked in mock surprise.

"Oh, no, we are playing hide and go seek." Elrond remembered playing the same game with the twins when they had been much younger.

"This is my office, Elladan. Do really think he would hide in here?"

"Well, no. But your door is open; I thought maybe you saw him pass by?"

"I did not see the boy pass by." Out of the corner of his eye Elrond saw, said boy stifle a giggle. Elrond was not lying, but definitely hiding the truth.

"I would never tell him so, but Estel is very apt at hiding." With a shake of his head, Elladan exited the room.

Elrond waited a few moments before letting Estel wiggle from his hiding place. "Go find another place to hide, before my son realizes my deception." Elrond smiled and pushed the boy towards the door.

Estel studied the hall outside the office to determine the cost was clear. Satisfied he slipped out the door. "Hannon le, Ada." He called over his shoulder.

Elrond sat for a few moments stunned. The boy had called him father. He probably had not even realized it. Elladan and Elrohir said it all the time. Standing from his desk, he went to the door and watched Estel run down the hall. Straight into Elladan.

The boy squealed and tried to back track only to be tackled by Elrohir. "Gotcha."

Elrond watched his sons play their laughter ringing in his ears.

His sons.

He had gained more than just the twins back when he let a little human boy into his life.
