Summary: She was his light in the dark. The guide for him while he was blind. But now she is gone.
Note: Originally for BlackAmethyst123 for In Between Our Lies. But then I decided it was too depressing, so here it is!
White Candle
She was his light in the dark; the white candle that shows wanderers where God's path is. [My mother is – was – Christian; why not me?]
She was dead. (But, secretly, he knows she is not. He can feel her – and sometimes even hear her tinkling laugh.)
. . .
"Hey, Bianca?" His sister's exasperated sigh comes from across the room – because he got to share a room with her again; oh joy.
"Yes?" She must have been doing her homework right then.
"Do you think there are gods?" It was so naïve of him to ask that, he thinks to himself now.
"I think there is a God," was her only reply.
"But what about the gods? Like Zeus and Athena and Hades . . .? What do you think of them?"
His sister, always one to believe in logic and what she was taught, replies with, "What of them? I think them children's tales; something to describe everything before we started using our actual brains." (He doesn't say this, but the Greeks were the smart ones. They did, after all, invent columns and things.)
"The gods would kill you right now."
"If they were real." Thunder rumbles, and both children jump. They stare at each other and double over laughing. (Their laughter rings into the night, and – though they never knew – a Fury hears it.)
. . .
It is almost funny how time flows, no? Is it not the most ironic thing? Time; an infinite river, expanding, never-ending. So many different realities; so many choices changing the future.
It must also be ironic, then, to have Bianca die over a figurine of their father, no? Is it not ironic for her to die for a father she does not know, but returns to? But, no, she didn't die for him; did not die for Hades. Bianca died for Nico – and Nico wanted (figurine) Hades.
He didn't want the only family he had to die for someone who had cursed them; locked them in some foggy in-between. (He wanted Bianca.)
