You know, from now on, I'm justing going to put the challenge at the top because Mufasa knows there's gonna be a lot of them.
Everything you touch, you don't feel; do not know what you steal (14 lyrics)
Yes, Fullmetal Alchemist angst! No, this is not an Elricest (I'm not a big fan of the incest, sorry guys). Erm, no spoilers to speak of, I think.
Dreams of a Child
Edward reaches out to touch the soft pillow beneath his head. Well, he remembers that pillows were soft, and he knows that this pillow should be soft, but that doesn't change the fact he can't feel a thing with his right hand. He glances over the large mass of metal that is his little brother.
How must it feel to be him? He never feels physical pain or extreme heat or cold, sure, but he also can't know the touch of friend or lover. He can't understand the feelings of having a hot beverage slipping down your throat as you sip at it on a cold winter's day. He can't grasp the idea of the comfort of gentle touch.
Ed can move his left hand to caress the pillow, and he then he knows it's as soft as he had thought it would be. Al can't do that.
This is their punishment for the over-zealousness of their childhood. Ed refuses to think at all of flying or of sun. Stupid metaphor.
The mentality of their youth had been that they had wanted everything. Mother, Father, Big Brother, Small Brother. Even Ed had secretly longed for the return of some sort of father figure to complete his childish fantasy that he couldn't help but cling to. When their mother left them, they found that there was no one left to hand them what they wanted.
So they stole it. They had no real idea of the immensity of what they were doing, but they went on anyway. As children, they felt that whatever price they paid, their mother could make it all better with a hug and kiss.
There was too much to steal.
Ed gingerly pushes away the sheets—his left leg feeling nothing, of course—and pads, cringing has the cold floor collides with his foot. He pads over the armor in which lies his brother. He kicks it with his automail.
Al cries out indignantly, but Ed knows he didn't really feel it as much as know it happened. "Al, what if when we get our normal bodies back, it hurts too much to feel?"
