The Children
A/N: Hello everyone I decided to rewrite this story cause I realized that I made a few errors in the first version, I promise I'll be continuing this story after I finish editing it.
Chapter 1:
(Sam's P.O.V)
I was sitting in the tribal lodge with the elders, Jacob Black, and his stupid lackeys Quil Ateara V, and Embry Call; I was called to an emergency meeting by the tribal chief Billy Black to discuss what was to be done about my adopted daughter Sophie Uley, she's only 8 years old but she can already phase into a wolf and the council doesn't like having her around just because she's half vampire.

About 9 years ago Jared and I were patrolling around the rez when I smelt two unfamiliar scent of vampires so I called for him as I took off following it, when I finally reached the area where the scent lead I found Paul in wolf form laying beside his mother who was covered in blood
"Sam look there are vampire parts scattered all over, he must have killed one and the other one must have fled when we got here" Jared said before he phase into his human form so he could collect the parts to burn, I decided to phase back as well to try to calm a angry Paul down
"Jared once your done burning the leech, take Paul's mother to the hospital, I'll stay here and try to calm him down then we will meet you at the hospital" I said as I slowly made my way over to a growling Paul
"Paul its me Sam, I need you to calm down I know what your going through but we really need to get your mother to the hospital" just as I reached them Paul stood up growling louder so I quickly phased so I could talk to him better
"Must protect, not let anyone hurt her anymore"
"Paul I promise you we aren't here to hurt you or your mother but you must let Jared take your mother to the hospital, she's losing too much blood and if we don't do something soon your going to lose her" at this he finally stopped growling at me to look down at his mom before turning back to me whimpering, I nodded to Jared as he slowly lifted the lady into his arms and he took off
"Please save her, it wasn't her fault we were attacked by two strange people" I started getting flashes of the events that just took place, I watched as Paul and his mother were enjoying there picnic when they suddenly got attacked by two vampires; the female held Paul down while the male raped his mother laughing at her screams, that's when Paul phased and he ripped the female's arm off causing her to jump away from him giving Paul enough time to reach the guy and tear him to shreds.
"Paul what do you remember of the legends"
"Not much just that we are decedents of people who can turn into wolves to protect the tribe from the cold ones"
"That's right we are the protectors from the legend and the people that attacked you a little while ago were vampires, now lets get you back into your normal form so we can go check on your mother" I began explaining how to phase back and surprisingly it only took him about a hour before he finally got the hang of it, it took me almost two days before I could phase back but of course back then I was the only wolf so I had to learn everything by myself.
The next day after the attack my heavily pregnant wife and imprint Emily was rush into the emergency room cause she had blood running down her legs, unfortunately we had just lost our baby who was still born, I also found out later that day that Paul's mother some how had gotten pregnant from the rape and she had tried everything to abort it but nothing was working. A week later Paul showed up at my door with a baby wrapped in a pink blanket
"Sam man I need your help, my mother died during childbirth and I don't have any clue on how to raise a baby is there any way you and Emily could take the baby and raise her as your own" he asked looking worried, I was about to deny the request when my mate shot past me and she took the baby from Paul's arms
"Of course we will take her Paul, and Sam I know what your going to say but we can't just abandon the little one she didn't do anything wrong"
"But Em she's half vampire what if she attacks someone" I nearly flinched when she glared at me
"She will have you and her big brother to look out for her and just look at her Sam, she might be half vampire but Paul's mother also carried the shifter gene so that also makes this little one part of the pack as well" just then I heard my wolf began talking to me
'pack must protect, must keep safe' I sighed before I looked at the baby, just then she looked up at me giggling and it was then I knew that no matter what I would raise and care for this little girl like she was my very own
"Very well Paul, we will take her but just remember no matter what your still her big brother and we aren't going to let you off with not helping out from time to time" I said making everyone laugh.
On Sophie's 8th birthday we got a real surprise when her and Paul got into a argument and she phased right there in the living room for the first time causing all of us to go into shock; Paul, Jared, and I all took turns teaching her everything she needed to know about our legends and we also explained to her about what she was, unfortunately when she shifted it also brought forth some of her vampire traits too so not only was she faster then the normal shifters but she was also a lot stronger and she also had to start drinking animal blood once a week otherwise she would become weak.
Paul decided to teach her how to hunt animals in wolf form so not only could she eat but she also got the blood she needed as well, Emily of course never had any problem with it; it wasn't until Jacob Black, Embry Call, and Quil Ateara IV had phased and they found out about her.
(Back to the Present)
I watched as Jacob pushed his father's wheelchair to the head of the table before he took his place at the other end, Billy Black was the chief of the tribe and beside him to the left was Elder Harry Clearwater and to Billy's other side sat Elder Quil Ateara II or otherwise known as Old Quil
"Thank you all for coming, this meeting is to discus what should be done about the young Sophie Uley who is the adopted daughter of Sam and Emily Uley and the half sister of our own Paul Lahote" Billy says catching everyone's attention
"I don't see why we are here Billy, Sophie hasn't done anything wrong so what is the real purpose of this meeting" I said taking my seat close to Harry Clearwater
"You better watch how you speak to your elders Sam"Old Quil said causing me to growl at him
"Now Sam we have been hearing complaints about the little girl and I think it's time we all voted on what should be done about it" Billy said looking at me,I jumped up and slammed my fist on the table
"I want to know who made these complaints, Sophie is only 8 years old how could she cause problems for anyone" I yelled, Jacob stood up grinning
"I made the complaints, she's nothing but a dirty half breed and she should be destroyed" I jumped over the table and grabbed him by the throat as hard as I could slam him into the wall
"You better watch how you speak about my daughter Black or I'll rip your tail off and shove it down your fucking throat" I said before I threw in into his friends knocking them over
"That is enough Sam, remember Jacob is the Alpha of this pack and you will treat him with respect" Billy said from his chair, I watched as Jacob got up still smiling
"That's right Sam your no longer alpha, I am and my first law is that Sophie Uley is no longer welcome in La Push, from this moment on she will be considered a leech and if she ever comes across the treaty line again starting tomorrow she will be dealt with according to our laws" I growled at him before I turned to look at the elders
"That's fine Jacob, then as of this moment on I am no long a member of this pack, as long as my daughter is no longer welcome in La Push then neither am I" I said as I started making my way out of the meeting hut
"Now Sam let's not be too hasty, you're still a member of this pack you can't just leave" Harry said as he laid his hand on my shoulder, I just shrugged it off
"As I said Harry if my daughter is not welcome then neither am I, I'm pretty sure once I tell Paul he's going to leave as well so good luck protecting the tribe with only four wolves Billy" I said smiling at everyone before I left and made my way home, I knew that Paul and Jared were on patrol so I quickly phased but was surprised when I couldn't hear my pack brothers so I lifted my head and howled letting them know to come to me.
Once they arrived we all phased and I began telling them what happened at the meeting, just as I though Paul said he would never follow Black's orders
"Come on let's go back to my house and begin packing, I have some money saved up so we can check into a hotel in Forks until we can finish the house we were working on, Jared you better get back to patrolling I'm sure Jacob and the others are going to warn you to try and stop us"
"Sam, you are my brother and little Sophie is my niece I won't stop you guys, just promise me you will take care of yourselves and our little girl" he said as he hugged both of us
"You know it, we'll try and keep in touch and we'll bring Sophie by after we finish packing to say good bye to Kim before we go" he nodded before he phased back and took off, I turned to Paul as he pulled on his shorts and we made our way back towards my house.
When we arrived I found my mate Emily in the kitchen so I walked up behind her wrapping my arms around her waist as I kissed her on the cheek, she leaned against me while I ran my nose against the side of her neck
"How did the meeting go" she asked as she continued making dinner, I explained what happened and I almost whimpered when I saw tears began to fall from her eyes
"How could they allow something like that to happen to our little girl" she asked as she turned to me so she could bury her head against my chest
"I don't know baby, I'm sorry I have to take you away from your friends and family" I said holding her close to me she just shook her head at me
"Don't be, you did the right thing and I'm proud of the decision you made, after everyone eats we'll begin packing" I kissed her softly just as Paul came running into the kitchen, I could see that something was very wrong
"Emily have you seen Sophie I can't find her anywhere" Paul asked, she looked over at him confused
"She said she wanted to run for a bit, she should be in the backyard" we all ran outside but we saw no sign of her, I told Emily to wait inside as Paul and I both removed our clothes and phased running into the woods.
When we finally reached found her she was way across the treaty line with another little girl on top of her while she was in her wolf form; I could tell from here that the other little girl was a leech, Paul rushed past me trying to get the girl off of his sister but instead little Sophie jumped up and tackled him to the ground
'Brother calm down we were just playing, this is my new friend Kairi' Sophie said as she slowly allowed her brother to get up, I ran into the trees and phased back pulling up my pants
"I'm sorry we scared you, we thought you were attacking my daughter please forgive us; I'm Sam Uley, Sophie's father and this here is Paul Lahote, Sophie's brother" I said pointing to Paul who ran into the woods so he could phase back, when he came back he looked into the girl's eyes and I saw his posture change, his eyes soften that's when I knew that he had just imprinted on the little girl who couldn't be much older than Sophie.
"It's a pleasure to meet you both I'm Kairi Cullen" she said as Sophie walked over to her, Paul and I heard something coming our way so we grabbed the girls and placed them behind us as we got ready to phase; I could smell it was a leech that was coming towards us so Paul and I started growling just as a large guy came rushing towards us, he stopped in front of us crouching getting ready to attack
"Everyone please stop, this is my big brother Emmett, brother these are my new friends" Kairi said as she walked around Paul to stand beside her brother.
"You're what" he said looking between his sister and us as he slowly stood up from his crouch position
"They are my new friends, this is Sam Uley, Paul Lahote, and his sister Sophie; you guys I would like to introduce you to my big brother Emmett McCarty Cullen" I walked up to him and held my hand out
"It's a pleasure meeting you, it's seems like the young ones here have become good friends"
"Yeah it seems like it" he said as he shook mine and Paul's hand, I looked over an saw that Sophie was trying to hide behind her brother
"Sophie honey where are your manners, come say hello" I said as I reached out for her hand, she took my hand and she shyly walked to my side
"Hello" she said softly trying to hide against me which caused all of us to laugh, Emmett smiled as he got down on his knees so they were eye leveled and he held out his hand to her
"It's a pleasure meeting you Sophie" he said as she shook his hand, he kissed the back of her hand causing her to giggle
'Maybe this is a sign that vampires and wolves can get along' I thought to myself, I was pulled out of my thoughts when Paul turned to me
"Come on guys we need to be heading back, we need to get packed and out of La Push before dawn" he said as he pulled his sister to him
"What do you mean by your leaving La Push, I thought the wolves are trapped there once you start phasing" Emmett said as we all made our way to the treaty line
"It seems that the tribe's elders and the new alpha don't want a half vampire/half shifter in La Push anymore, they have banished her from La Push so Paul and I decided to leave the pack and live either here in Forks or if your family doesn't want us in their territory then we will make our way to Seattle or somewhere else" I said causing Emmett to stopped and looked at us
"I don't think my family would have any problems with you and your family staying in Forks, as long as our treaty is still in effect then I don't see the big deal; That way Kairi and Sophie can always visit each other whenever they want" Sophie and Kairi started jumping for joy as they hugged each other
"Yay that means we can be friends forever" they said together, I looked up at Emmett
"I've noticed that Kairi doesn't smell like a normal vampire…" Emmett nodded as he turned to his sister
"Yeah she's like Sophie she's a half vampire/half human; Carlisle and I found her one day about 4 years ago while we were out hunting, her mother was already dead so we took her in and raised her" I nodded as we watched the girls play a little longer, when we arrived at the border Emmett and Kairi stayed on their side as we waved good bye to them before the three of us made our way back home.
