After all this time
A/N: I don't hate any of the characters in the story. Call me crazy, but I can even sympathize the bad guys, see things from their point of view, y'know?
Disclaimer: sigh, the power of wishful thinking will never get me anywhere.
He knew his time had come as soon as the miko Kagome released the arrow. You know when your life is about to end and see your life flashing before your eyes? Well this is happening to Naraku right now.

"Give me an able body and powers so I can win the heart of the miko Kikyou!" Onigumo had cried.
As all the demons were absorbed into Onigumo's body, the hanyou, Naraku was born. Now all that remained of Onigumo was his human heart, the heart that still loved Kikyou.
Naraku knew that to corrupt the Shikon no Tama, all he had to do was touch it. Onigumo's human heart made Naraku hate Inuyasha, the hanyou that stole Kikyou's heart.
He gave Kikyou a mortal wound on her shoulder, looking like her beloved. Then, he took the form of Kikyou and shot three arrows at Inuyasha, making sure that they missed.
He knew the wound he gave her was fatal and grieved for her death. He was surprised at the pain he felt in his heart and wished for it to be gone. So, he vowed that somehow he would get rid of his human heart and become a full blooded youkai so as to escape the pain forever.

It was fifty years later, Naraku had just killed Kikyou for the second time. He had locked the pain away to deal with later. He laughed as he tasted the sweetness of revenge. Inuyasha and his nakama glared up at him, hating him for all they were worth (which wasn't much anyways), but they didn't know his was broken inside.

The fragment of soul that Kikyou was using had just rejoined with Kagome. Naraku mourned for her second death and loathed himself to be the cause of it. The fact that he and Onigumo's love will now be forever unrequited only made his suffering worse. The pain was great, greater than any he felt before.

Naraku was staring at the almost complete Shikon no Tama. Only one shard left, the shard he had given to the taijiya boy so long ago. A sparkle of light caught his eye. It was the sparkle of purity that Kikyou had left in it during the last moment of her second life. He winced as his heart throbbed; the pain overwhelmed him for a moment. The miko Keade was right, his favourite technique was to turn people's bonds against themselves, to turn them against one another; but then, who could blame him? He only wanted to lighten his burden by giving everyone else a small piece of it. Was it so unbearable for him to try to ease his pain?

Naraku sighed and made a different wish than the one he had meant to make, he made the wish of the Shikon no Tama itself. He knew that when the time came, he wouldn't go to the same place that Kikyou did. He would let the Shikon no Tama absorb his and Kagome's soul, at least he would be with a resemblance of his love for eternity.
The arrow flew true and pierced through the heart of the Shikon no Tama, purifying the miasma, purifying the jewel and purifying Naraku's broken soul.
Heh, it seems that I won't be going where you are Kikyou,
but,
after all this time,
I still love you.
A/N: Yay! It's done! This is the first time I've finished a story without stopping halfway through! Hip-hip-hurrah to me! So maybe it's a little (well maybe a lot) short but at least I finished it! I'm writing another oneshot, wish me luck! Please review and tell me what you think about this one!
Sayonara minna-san!
