HERE WE GO WITH ANOTHER ONE-SHOT… I WROTE THIS BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN GIVING SNOW CRAP THIS SEASON ABOUT THE WAY SHE'S BEEN ACTING. I DON'T LIKE IT EITHER (I THINK WE ALL PREFER BANDIT SNOW), BUT I THINK THAT MAYBE THIS IS ANOTHER TAKE ON IT? IT MAKES SENSE TO ME, SO THAT'S WHAT I'M GOING TO GO WITH LOL. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK?
Snow hadn't talked about her mother a lot in the Enchanted Forest, and certainly not when the town was cursed, so James knew very little about Eva. In fact, all he knew was that she was a kind woman who loved Snow dearly, and vice versa. Even though she took her mother's death hard, she also took in stride, like everything else. In fact, thinking back to their first few months in the castle, he realized Snow never talked about her, even in passing comments. Everything he knew about Eva was from Granny and stories he'd heard growing up. He remembered worrying about Snow the first time he'd given her a present on the first birthday they were together. It ended up being the last time he gave her a birthday present. He's suspected that witnessing the death of one's mother at such a young age, especially when she could have saved her, would have some effect. Now, he was beginning to think he was right since Snow holed herself up in their room.
Emma had been after him for days to drag her out of there and tell her to get it together. He just couldn't bring himself to. The more he thought about it, the more things he realized. Like earlier in the day, it occurred to him that maybe this whole thing wasn't about killing Cora. Maybe she was so upset because she used Dark Magic. And then it made sense. Eva had told Snow that she would be with her as long as her heart was pure. So really, she was grieving the loss of her mother all over again. That final thought clicked together just as Emma says something about 'Mary Margaret needing to help herself', loud enough for the woman in question to hear, but James was still in his head a little bit by the time he could stop Emma. She and Henry left for Neal's, and something magical happened:
She was out of bed.
And then she went to go shoot at a poor, unsuspecting tree.
