AN: Just a little snippet that's been 'squirming' around in my mind for a while.
Thought I'd get it out and down on paper.

[in the moments before]
In the days before, they looked at each other. What else could they do?
She looked, and he looked. And others saw.
In the hours before, they spoke to each other. But what (more) could they say?
She spoke, and he spoke; important, inconsequential, words...
In the minutes before, lived a whole eternity; of 'I'm sorry's and 'I wish we did's.
But as unspoken knowledge;
that none of them uttered,
sentences that remained,
and kept,
all the same.
In the moments before, she begged him to stay;
but her mind was numb, as her lips kept moving,
and again she used words she thought would be 'fitting',
instead of the words she wanted to say.
'Don't leave us' //Don't leave me!//
'Please Sir…'
- Respectability's mockery.
In the second before: he opened his eyes,
with (more) words she couldn't comprehend;
And he looked.
as she stared,
As she saw,
as he realised…
- that they both knew,
what they both knew.
as he froze…
