Nicolette's POV
I wake up to find the birds singing, the sun shining and Lillan bursting with a smile in my face.
"Lilly!" I say wailing my arms, just missing smacking her face
"Wake up silly! Its reaping day!" She says brightly. Reaping day is probably the worst day of the year for residents in the Districts, but for people like Lillan and I, its a chance to learn and laugh. The thing is, Lillan and I live in the Capitol, and we don't get put into the reaping. I just can't understand why Lilly enjoys watching kids our age suffer. Lilly and I may be twin sisters, but were definetly nothing alike.
"Oh yeah, I completely forgot" I answered, but I was thinking this. " OH REALLY? OF COURSE YOU JUST HAVE TO WAKE ME UP FOR THIS, BECAUSE THE REAPING JUST SLIPPED MY MIND EVEN WHEN THERES A GREAT CHANCE MY BEST FRIEND, RANGE, WILL GET DRAWED."
"Well, what are you waiting for? Pull yourself together, do your hair, try to smell decent today. Something, okay? All the districts will be seeing us" She pauses for a moment " After all, I- I mean we, are the gorgeous daughters of the one and only Vice President Braid!" She says sweeping her blonde curls to the side. She leaves the room, the last thing I see is Lillan skipping off having her long curls trailing behind her.
I think to myself, sometimes I wonder how I'm even related to her. I shrug my shoulders, take a long shower, making the tears, brought by thoughts of Range, look un-noticable. A few hours later, I leave my room, and make my way down to the main hall. In other words, our dinning room.
"It's about time you've joined us, Nicolette" my mom says, staring me down as if I'm late. Which I'm not, but surprisingly my father, mother and Lilly are already sitting down at the table.
"Nicole, mom. I've told you to call me Nicole" I say taking the seat next to Lilly.
" And I've told you, Nicolette. I won't adress you by a name that wasn't given to you" She snaps back. Classic mom.
I moan. My mother just doesn't understand teenagers today. I wonder what would happen if she were to find out that I call Lillan, Lilly. A name I've used since we were younger because I couldn't pronounce Lillan properly.
"Anyways, girls. Theres been a change to the Games this year" My father starts. Before he continues Lilly starts to speak.
"Ooh really! More tributes, more mutts, more deaths, or my favourite..forced romance? Which one is it Daddy?"
Lillan is quite childish for her age, you would expect a 17 year old girl to out grow a name like "Daddy" by now.
"None of the above, Lillan" His voice cracks in the process. " President Rainford has decided to make the games fair this year"
"Oh please, dad. The games have never been fair" I say.
"Yes, Nicolette. I understand that" My mother grasps his hand tightly. They lean foward having their foreheads press together.
"Dad, what is it?" I say strongly, knowing something is wrong.
"President Rainford, has made a new rule for this years games. All the tributes are..." He says not finishing the sentence.
I brace myself for whats coming next. I twitch slightly.
"The tributes a-are.." His voice is shaking.
"DAD GET THE TO THE POINT!" I say frusturated.
"Kids from the Captiol" He says.
"Kids from the Capitiol" I reply the sentence in my head over and over again. I just dont get it, whats wrong with that? I'm not going to get reaped, afterall just like Lillan said " I am the daughter of the one and only Vice President Braid" Soon I realize the problem though. He's not done his sentence, and we know who the tributes are. Lillan and Nicolette Braid.
