Fire and Ice

She never noticed him.

She was always the focus of everything in school. The perfect cheerleader with boundless energy and shiny dark hair. Her father was the mayor, her family filthy rich.

And him? He kept to the shadows. The sulky orphan with no friends and wild curly hair. He was a nobody who everyone avoided and no one mentioned. The outcast.

But the orphan boy who was a nobody didn't mind. While no one noticed him, he noticed everyone and his gaze kept getting drawn back to the perfect cheerleader.

She never left his mind. He would lie awake at night thinking about her. Her hair, the color of midnight. Her smile, bright as the sun. Her voice, her laugh, her everything. He longed for her, dreamed for her to smile at him, laugh with him, talk to him.

But at school he never did anything. Never said hi. Never waved. Never anything.

Because even if he wanted to, he knew he never could. He knew if he caved he would destroy her, condemn them both.

Because he was ice. And she was fire.

The orphan and the princess.
