Salty Rain

Takaisin sateeseen
Öisille kaduilleni kun astelen

Pisaran poskeltani nuolaisen
Sadepisaran suolaisen

The rain kept falling.

The water formed streams on the trampled ground. The droplets falling into the mud-splattered blond hair ran down his cheeks, streaking the dirt and blood, mixing with the salty liquid falling from his eyes.

A pale, trembling hand ghosted over the mortal wound in the swordsman's stomach, then clenched shortly into a fist before finding its way behind the green-haired head.

Bloody lips curled into a tired grin. "Oi, cook, you aren't crying, are you?" came the question, quiet and rough.

"Shut up", he whispered back, voice cracking. "Please… Don't say anything."

He pulled the younger man closer, rubbing his cheek against the short tresses, his body shaking. The man lying in his arm lifted a hand to the back of his head with a sad, worn smile on his face.

"I love you."

The words were only a sigh, but he heard them nonetheless, and they made his hearth both swell with joy and break with sorrow. "I love you", he sobbed, "Don't leave me. I love you."

Dark eyes closed and tears made their way down the sharp features. "I'm sorry", was everything he could say. "I'm so sorry." His breath caught in his chest, and the hand clasping the blond locks slid down into the muddy ground.

The other man inhaled jaggedly, and let out a howl of pain and sorrow. He rocked back and forward, wailing his grief, head buried in the crook of the swordsman's neck, hugging the lifeless body that had once been his nakama, his friend, his love. Tears, spilled for the man who was now gone, mixed into the falling rain, turning into salty droplets that ran down his cheeks.

And the rain kept falling.

Takaisin sateeseen astelen
Silmäkulmiani kastelen

Sinua muistelen
Sinut päästäni pois puistelen

A.N.: -sob- Sorry!! I'm such a sucker for sad love stories. And after reading "Without you is how I disappear" by AnimeBride (a sad, but lovely little story, well worth reading) I wanted to try if I could capture the same feeling… Only this time from Sanji's POV. Not quite what I had in mind, but… I'll let you lot be the judges. 'Nd yes, I know, I'm such a copycat!! -cries- Forgive me, Mello-sama!!

The lyrics in the beginning and in the end are from "Suolaista sadetta" by Eppu Normaali. If you've never heard it, I suggest you go to YouTube and listen to it. If you speak Finnish, they might add slightly to the story, but otherwise they're just beautiful words.
("Suolaista sadetta" is Finnish for "salty rain", so there, the title explained!)

I still love your reviews, they help me write. (Plus I need to know if I suck or not, so…)

Loves and hugs
