Candied Rose Petals

"Oh, gosh, these are good," Lily said, helping herself to another candied rose petal. "They're like potato chips, except they're not fried and they're flowers, so you don't feel unhealthy! And they can't be doing anything bad, because you eat them all the time, and your figure is perfect!"
"I know, right?" Lily's friend Rose looked at her amusedly. "They're so easy to make, too!"
"Where do you get all the roses?"
"Oh, those," Rose shook her hand dismissively. "When your name's a flower, your boyfriend thinks it's cute to give you a bouquet of those flowers on EVERY SINGLE DATE. You should know. I've come up with many uses for roses over the years."
Lily chuckled knowingly, then abruptly jumped to her feet. "Sorry, Rose, but it completely slipped my mind! I have to go patrol with James."
"That's fine," Rose said, taking another rose petal. "More for me!" Her eyes sparkled with mischief. "Have fun 'patrolling'."
"What do you mean?"
"Put it this way," Rose said. "You are patrolling. With your boyfriend. Alone. Late at night. Just the two of you. Are you catching my drift? Don't even try to tell me that all you do is talk."
Lily blushed prettily, then made her exit.
Later, in the middle of a snogging session
"James?" Lily asked, breaking their kiss.
"Yes, darling?"
"From now on, when we go out, can you get me roses instead of lilies?"
"Your wish is always my command. Why?"
"Let's just say that lily petals brushed with egg white and covered with sugar don't taste half as good as rose petals that undergo the same procedure." She said, ignoring James' confused expression.
And with that, the 'patrolling' resumed.
