''Come on Edith, it's time for school'' Gru called up the stairs. Edith trudged slowly down the stairs with her school bag. She pulled off her knit cap and stared at herself in the mirror. She hardly recognised herself. Her blonde hair was neatly brushed and combed instead of its normal shaggy style. ''Why can't I have my hair the normal way?'' Edith moaned.
''You know why'' Lucy sighed coming into the hall, ''You and Agnes are having your class photos today. ''But there's lots of photos of me'' Edith said sulkily. ''Yes'' Gru said icily, ''But you're pulling faces in some of them''. Edith hung her head. She'd only been having a bit of fun. ''Lucy how do we persuade our daughter to look nice for a photo?'' Gru asked. ''I know'' Lucy said.
She whispered something to her husband who nodded and smiled. ''Edith we'll make a deal with you'' Gru said. ''What?'' Edith asked curiously. ''If you bring home a photo where you're not pulling a face'' Lucy said, ''We'll take you to that new water park''. ''Oceans Universe?'' Edith gasped. Oceans Universe had just opened and Edith had heard her friends talking about it.
It had a big Jacuzzi, a tsunami wave pool, several flumes [including one called a Space Bowl], and the Super Turbo High Speed River Ride. ''Is this a deal?'' Gru asked. ''Yes'' Edith replied eagerly. ''That's settled then'' Lucy said, ''Remember Edith look your best for the photo or no Oceans Universe''. Edith nodded and pulled her knit cap over her head.
All she had to do was keep clean and pull no faces. How hard could that be?.
That morning in school, Edith's teacher talked about their science project. Edith was hardly paying attention. She was imaging whizzing down the Super Turbo High Speed River Ride at Oceans Universe. ''Edith!'' her teacher barked, ''Pay attention this is important''. Edith sighed. The photographer was coming that afternoon. How was she supposed to get through a whole morning looking her best?
Lunchtime arrived at last. Edith was exhausted. It had been hard work trying to stay clean for the whole morning. But now it was almost time for the photographer to arrive. She lined up with her class in the hall for the photo. The photographer was bending into his camera.
Edith thought hard. What was it her parents had said other than looking her best?. Oh yes, no pulling faces that's what. She beamed a cheesy smile at the camera. Everything was going to be okay. CLICK!. ''How did de photo go Edith?'' Gru asked when he met her and Agnes at home time. ''Fine'' Edith replied. When they arrived home she handed over the photo to her parents.
She held her breath as they looked at the photo. ''Well Edith'' Lucy said, ''Looks like you are going to Oceans Universe''. ''Yes!'' Edith whooped. She had done it. She was finally going to Oceans Universe.
