His hearing was going, but he could hear the crows shriek, waiting for him.
He couldn't seem to move his head, but he could see down the bright grassy slope of the lawn, to the school Quidditch pitch and the lake beyond. It did not bother him greatly that some of the humps on the lawn were not exotic horticulture but children's bodies, mounded in their black robes.
After all, what did it matter? The sky was blue and the grass was green and birds (of a sort) were singing, and in the end, there were worse places to die.
