Okay little things about this story...1) vampires DO NOT SPARKEL but they also do not burst into flames...2) Vampires keep their eye color it just gets lighter or darker with how hungry they are (Jackson Rathbone's eyes are just too beautiful to make them gold XP)...3) I think it will be very good.

BPOV

It could be so simple. Just one more little step and it would all be over. All this pain from where my heart is supposed to be. He just ripped my heart out without even caring that it was all I would have left after he went away. You would think that once your heart was gone that all the pain would stop, but it doesn't. Now I feel like nothing is right. He was the one thing that mattered in this pathetic life. With the loss of the last important thing in life I now stand at the top of this building.

"It's just high enough." I jumped and looked to my left. It was like there was a mirror on the ledge because I was looking at myself.

I went to say something but the other me spoke first, "You know I've heard that the fall is quite peaceful and you don't really feel the final stop. It's just one step more, and what really is holding you here?"

I instinctively said, "What about dad. He would be heart broken if I did this."

The other me tilted her head back and laughed, "That bastard? Ever since he got canned from the police force all he does is drink. I think he would morn just long enough to pour himself another glass of booze. He won't miss you."

"Maybe you are right." I began to think the other me was right, nobody would care if I died. I had nothing and no one.

"Come on Bella, you know I'm right. Look down there." I leaned over just enough to see over the side, "There isn't one single person down there that would stop you or even yell trying to get you to stop."

"But there isn't anyone down there. It's almost midnight now." I looked up at the bright full moon.

"Oh what does it matter anyway. Even if there was somebody down there they wouldn't speak up let alone do something." The other me took a step closer to me, "Come on just two steps and it will all be over."

"You're right." I said. I took one little step closer.

"Excuse me miss." A southern accent said from behind me.

I looked behind me and standing not five feet away from me was a boy not much older than myself. His hair was down towards his shoulders. It was a blondish color with some wavy curl to it. As I stood there looking at him he moved closer, "Darlin, why don't you come down from there."

I shook my head, "No. I'm gonna jump."

He took a step closer, "Now why in the name of hell fire would you want to do that for?"

I turned back to face the ledge, "Because nothing is going right in my life."

He chuckled, "Now come on what in the world could be so bad that this is your last option?"

"My father's a drunk who hits me when he is plastered, my mom left me here for a nineteen year old, and the last person in my life that I love just took my heart and left town with it." I rattled off just the top things on my list.

"Well darlin why not come down and we can talk about it?" He took another step closer.

"Now now Bella don't let him get close enough to grab you. If he does he will pull you down then tell someone and you will be sent to a hospital for 'evaluation' again." The other me said.

I took a step sideways, "Get back. The only down I'm going is that way." I said pointing down to the sidewalk.

He took a little step that I copied. He must have known that he wasn't getting any closer, "Alright. My name's Jasper. I'm new here. What's your name sweety?"

I looked over my shoulder at him, "Bella."

"Beautiful." He said with a slight smile.

I laughed, "I'm not beautiful and neither is my name."

"Well what I originally meant was that you name means beautiful, but now that you point it out you are very beautiful. Can you at least tell me where you live so I know who to tell about all of this?"

"The middle of shitville. I don't want to go back there even after I die." I could feel tears slipping down my face, "Just go away and let me do this by myself."

"But I would like to be here to know if you do it or not." He said calmly.

I looked back over my shoulder. He was standing there with that slight smile but I could see the worry in his eyes, those beautiful green eyes. They were so bright they could have glowed if the moon was behind the clouds. I closed my eyes and shook my head. "Get a grip girly. You just got your heart torn out of your chest and you are making goo-goo eyes with this guy? Focus on your goal; the pavement."

"There's nothing you can say or do to stop me. I have no friends, the only family I have is a good for nothing father, and you would be the only one to even give a shit for a few minutes." I told him as I took another step closer to the edge.

"But your wrong. I like you. I mean this isn't the best way to make friends but I think we could be good friends if you just come down." He pleaded to me.

I turned around on the ledge. "I'm sorry we'll never know. Goodbye Jasper." I said as I took a step backwards and off the ledge. I closed my eyes and waited for the impact but all I felt was a jolting pain in my shoulders and the feel of hands around my wrists. My head snapped up to the ledge and Jasper was leaning over the side. He had both of my wrists firmly and was pulling me back up. "What are you doing?" I yelled at him.

"Pulling your ass back up here darlin." He spoke as he pulled me back onto the ledge. When I was all the way up he picked me up bridal style and carried me to the door and down the stairs of the apartment building. When we got to the street he put me down and said, "Now see you went down here and you never touched anything between there and here." He said pointing up to the top of the building to the sidewalk.

"You are a very big smart ass you know that right?" I asked him.

"Sure do. But I am also a southern gentleman who just could not stand to see a beautiful girl like you jump off of such a high building."

I looked at him smugly, "I bet you thought I wasn't really going to do it. By the way how did you catch me? You were at least five feet away from me."

He smiled at me a full smile, although it didn't touch his eyes. His eyes had a different emotion showing through but I couldn't really say what. "I was actually almost right next to you. I think things were a bit different with your emotions going like they were."

"Hm if you say so. Well I better get home since it looks like my suicide attempt has been ruined and I would guess that if I walked back up you would bring me back before I even got to the ledge." I commented.

"You can surely bet on that miss." He said in the wonderful southern accent.

"Yeah thought so. So night." I said as I turned to walk home.

He walked right along next to me, "Can I offer you a ride home or where ever it is you want to go?"

"You can but it doesn't mean I'm going to take it." I knew I was being rude but he ruined my death and now I had to go home to hell so I figured that I had some kind of right to be angry.

"Well if you don't accept my offer I will just have to walk next to you till we get to your house."

I stopped and faced him, "And why would you do that? You just met me and not to mention it was while I was on a ledge of a building. So why should you care?"

"Well like I said up there, I think we could be good friends."

"Well I have enough friends so I don't need you."

I went to walk away but he grabbed me and pulled me back some, "If you have so many friends what was that up there about having no friends."

I glared into those green eyes of his and said, "I didn't say I had a lot of friends. I said that I have enough and none is enough for me. No friends and you don't have to worry about them hurting you or stabbing you in the back. So yes no friends is the perfect number for me."

"Okay. Just please let me give you a ride. I won't sleep well if I'm not sure that you are okay tonight."

I rolled my eyes at him, "Fine you can give me a freakin ride home." He took my hand and started to lead me across the street, "Where is your stupid car anyway?"

He laughed and said, "You really can't call this car stupid, unless you think an all black Porsche is a stupid car."

I stood at the door of the car, "Who did you steal this off of?"

He smiled and got in the car, "I didn't steal it. My family bought it for me. Look." He held up the registration and his license and the names both matched.

"Jasper Whitlock Hale Cullen. Wow that's one long name, mom get divorced a lot?"

"No actually she died and I went to foster families." Wow did I feel like a bitch, asshole, and idiot all rolled into one. He must have almost read my mind, "It's okay. Just please get in the car so I can take you home?"

I got in and gave him directions to my house, "Well this is me. It was okay to meet you Jasper. Maybe you'll see me around."

"I hope to see you around in school tomorrow." He reached up and kissed my hand, "Good night Bella."

"Night Jasper." and I walked away like his show of affection has no affect on me. I didn't look back as I walked through the door to the house. But the smell of cheap cigars and booze brought me back to the fact that I was now in fact in Shitville.

"BELLA! Where the hell were you at?" Charlie screamed at me from the couch.

"I went out for a walk." I said.

I heard him get off the couch and I sprinted for the stairs and for my room. I pulled out my key to my room as I heard him trying to come up the stairs after me. I was finally able to get the right key and open my door. I just got it closed and locked in time for Charlie to run into the door. He started to pound on the door screaming, "Bella, you good for nothing bitch, open this fuckin door right now."

"Dad you're drunk, please go to bed." I pleaded with him.

"You aren't going to tell me what the fuck I'm going to do in my own house. Now open this god damn door."

I didn't listen to him. Sooner or later he would get tiered of yelling and go back to his booze. I looked out my window and down to the street. His black car was still parked there. I let loose the tears and mumbled, "Why couldn't you have just let me die? I can't take his abuse." I could see Jasper put his head down like he had just heard everything I mumbled. He started the car and drove away.

Well that was chapter 1 of one more step. I hope you like it and continue to read. Make sure before you leave to show me love and review. Thanks :D
