Dorothy Cahill and her mother Octavia had just moved from Kansas all the way back to Riverdale. When they first moved away, it was because her mom and dad broke up and got divorced. She got re-married a few years later. But that relationship ended as well. This and another terrible incident made both of them chase after a new start.
So at the beginning of Dot's summer break, Octavia went back to Riverdale to prepare the small house she had just bought for them. Dot stayed with a friend. She wasn't really needed in the move and needed some time to say good-bye to her friends.
Several incidents with the house and their car breaking down prevented Dot from starting her first year at Riverdale High with every other student. The young girl dreaded her first day now. Starting with everyone else might have been easier, but now a week later it was horrifying.
The girl arrived on a Sunday evening. It was a cold and rainy night. Dot was busy unpacking her things when her mother knocked on her doorframe. The brunette looked up, smiling at her mother. "Hey." she greeted. "Hey, baby. You hungry?" she asked, helping Dot hang up one of her movie posters. "Starving." Dot said laughing. They'd been on the road all day, it was a long drive from Kansas to Riverdale.
"Is Pop's still open? Is Pop's still a thing?" Dot asked chuckling. She hadn't been there in years. It used to be her refuge. Her mom laughed as well. "I'm pretty sure it's still open." the blonde woman said.
"Good. I need one of Pop Tate's burgers, immediatly." Dot said. "You can go. I'm not that hungry. But don't forget, curfew's at midnight. With everything that happened recently you probably shouldn't stay out so late. But since you're just going to Pop's I think you'll be fine." Octavia said.
Dot had found out that recently this popular kid named Jason Blossom had disappeared. It had apparently really brought this Town's reputation down.
"I'll be back before midnight. Unless I get caught up. But I doubt it." the young girl said, grabbing her jackett and keys. "Maybe you'll meet Betty or Archie...or Jughead." Octavia said, smiling.
Dot had been best friends with the three back in Elementary School. That was an eternity ago though and Dot doubted they would recognize her. She probably wouldn't recognize them either. "Mom, it's been eight years. They've grown up, I've grown up. We'll probably won't recognize each other in the slightest." Dot said as she walked out of her room, her mom closely behind her.
"Well, I think you'll be happy to hear that Betty and Archie live next door." Octavia said, following her daughter down the steps. "That's great. We'll see if we can re-kindle that friendship of ours, but right now - I need a burger." Dot said in a rush as she walked out the front door to her car...
