The Sand-man
As the little girl closed her eyes something fell from the air. Tiny grains of sand landed on her head and began to sparkle like little stars in the night sky. Behind her eyelids she saw a small smiling face. it looked so comforting and happy that she let him take her away. Slowly, without realising, she began to vanish without a sound. In a blink, she was gone.
Suddenly Lucy landed with a muffled thud. She looked around. Where was she? The landscape was so vast and plain. Sand was everywhere. There was a great mound right in front of her, enabling her to just see the top. It was inviting her adventurous spirit to climb it. Carefully she stood up and began brushing herself off. She paused. A shiver ran down her spine. Someone was looking at her. She could feel it. Silently, she said a prayer, but voice's filled her mind, interupting her thoughts. 'Why bother? Religious stuff is such a waste of time', 'Honey, Really. You dont actually believe in that stuff do you?' Shaking her head, she willed them away. Stepping forward, she began to clime the 'hill'. About ten meters up she slipped and began a descent down. She let out a cry of disbelief."Ugh!" Slapping the ground she got up and tried again.
Looking down, she smiled at herself. She should be almost there now. She looked up. 'What?' she mumered. It looked the same as on the ground before. It weas never-ending. With an exasperated sigh she slid back down. She would have to find anotehr way. She closed her eyes and a figure jumped up before her eye-lids. The face was vaguely familiar. It was as if she had seen it quite recently.
'Really Lucy. Do you think you can get to my empire that easily? Hahahahaha' The laugh echoed in her mind as she began walking away in a daze. What was happening to her? Suddenly she tripped and fell on the ground. her mouth was full of sand so she quickly grabbed the drink bottle lying near by. Halfway though gurgling, she stopped. How did a drink bottle get here? Spitting out the water in her mouth, she looked around. Lying just below her feet was a small pack. Carefully she opened it up to find another bottle, a rope, a hook and a torch. She went over the objects again. She sighed. How could these be of any use to her. Wait. rummaging through the pack again she grabbed the hook and rope out. Yes. It just might work. Picking up her new found treasures, she ran to the 'hill' again. First, she tied the Rope and the hook together and the tied the other end of the rope to her waist. Stepping back she threw the hook high in the air, narrowly missing the top. She tried again, this time with luck. It held fast so she began to climb. This time she would make it.
