Asserting Dominance
I don't feel like Derek is a very good Alpha so he's going to start asserting some dominance in his pack and show them just where they place in the line of authority.
The True Weight of the Title 'Alpha'
Derek lied on his back, staring at the ceiling contemplating his thoughts. How Derek didn't become an Alpha for this. Didn't want the family he built, the ones who were broken inside, just like him, to be hunted, tortured, and killed. And all because of him, even murdered by his own hand. Boyd and Erika. Erika and Boyd. Together then parted but always following the other close behind.
Did his pack even think of him as an Alpha, he couldn't even kill Peter alone, he even fell prey to Lydia and inadvertently brought Peter back to life. If that doesn't scream useless Alpha then not being able to control Scott, the 'previous' pack under Peter was abysmal.
Derek groaned as he rolled over to his side, muscles still taut after being electrocuted but not as painful as it should have, which just surfaced worse memories, ones he wanted to bury deep down along with the Fire. Sighing Derek curled up into a ball on the bedspread, clawing at his stomach to push the memory away of how he couldn't even defeat an Alpha now that he was one, couldn't even do it to save the woman, Jennifer, to save Boyd. Hell, he didn't even feel like an Alpha, Scott was steadily proving himself worthy of the title. They didn't even listen to him compared to when everybody started out.
He couldn't even keep his pack together. Thinking of everything he and his pack did for Jackson just for him to leave unsettled his stomach. He wished things didn't turn out this way but then he guessed he wouldn't have dated Kate and had to live the rest of his adolescent years alone.
'No,' He thought. 'This has to change.' Derek needed to protect his pack so that's what he was going to do, even if he thought he wasn't as strong as some Alpha's, he could make his pack strong. 'I'll start from the bottom.'
In case anyone doesn't understand the chapter title, it's Derek asserting dominance on his life and realizing that even though he may have tried, the decisions that he makes have consequences, but he also realizes while there are things he needs to do to make his pack more united that the others in his pack cause a lot of grief for him.
