Hey guys! This is my first story for Orphan Black, and I'm very excited. Also, even though she doesn't in this story, we all need to hope that Cosima makes it through the next season. :)
"Okay kids, come on," said Kira, fully grown up, and addressing a classroom of third graders. "It's story time. What would you like me to read?" The children mumbled among themselves, sometimes yelling out names of books that didn't seem to exist.
"Ms. Manning!" one small girl called out. "Tell us a story about your family!" Many of the other children seemed to agree.
"Alright, alright," said Kira, smiling. "I have a big, interesting family. My mom's great, her name is Sarah. At the beginning of my life she wasn't always there for me. But she made up for that, and then some. My dad's name is Cal. I met him when I was eight, so I didn't know him my whole life, but he's great too. He also has a nice beard."
"I like beards, they're funny," one girl said. Her friends giggled around her. Kira laughed too.
"Yes, that's what I thought too. My mom had one brother, named Felix. He was funny, caring, and very unique. He has his own views, styles, and is just great. She also has many, many sisters. They all look alike, but I could always tell them apart."
"What were their names?" asked a boy.
"Well, there was my Auntie Rachel. She didn't get along very well with her sisters, especially with my mom. Auntie Rachel liked to be in charge of everything, and everything needed to be her way. Naturally, the others didn't like that. Sometimes, she actually got me involved in the fights. Those were always the most extreme. She also suffered a fairly extreme eye injury, which I guess was slightly my fault. Then there was my Auntie Alison. She too was uptight, but in a different way. She had kids too. She always had the best of intentions, but sometimes she would get so worked up about things that she would make bad decisions. Sometimes very bad decisions. But she was kind, and she would sometimes help my mom take care of me. She was very good with a glue gun too. And my Auntie Helena was so much fun. She was one of my favorite Aunties. She and I always had so much fun together, even though she sometimes got me into trouble." Kira's eyes closed, remembering the sudden, sharp pain that was the car hitting her chest. She shook her head briefly, and returned to her story telling.
"Initially, she and my mom didn't get along. At all. But now, they are incredibly close. And then...then there was my Auntie Cosima. My Auntie Cosima was the one who fell, the one we lost. She was a brilliant, brilliant, scientist. But she got very sick. Even when she was sick, though, she always wanted to help me. She would do science projects with me. And we both loved this book, The Island of Doctor Moreau. She was wonderful."
"That's sad," one girl said.
"But you have a really cool family," added one boy.
"Yes," said Kira. "Yes I do."
