Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
Harry lay on his back in his little cot, staring at the underside of the stairs with his heart full of worry and dread. He brought a hand up to his head, his palm running unevenly over the odd patches left behind after Aunt Petunia's haircut. She had finally got tired of his unruly hair and his "lies" that he had brushed it before breakfast, and taken the kitchen shears to it, all while Dudley looked on with mad glee in his eye.
He sighed, hoping in his heart of hearts that it would grow back quickly. He already had a hard time at school. No one talked to him, because of Dudley's bullying, and the strange things that seemed to happen around him. When he went into class tomorrow, he would be the laughing stock of the whole school. Even that pretty girl in the front row with the blue eyes would laugh at him.
He fell asleep that night, dreaming of standing at the front of Miss Mulberry's class as all the other students pointed and laughed at him, Dudley the loudest of them all.
The next morning, Harry woke up with a groan, his eyes blinking slowly as they adjusted to the dim light of the morning creeping under the space of the door. He brought his hands up to rub the crust out of his eyes, the tips of his hair tickling him slightly.
His hair!
He reached up higher, running his hands through his hair repeatedly. Could it be? Was he dreaming? He had wished hard enough, but did it really happen?
He tugged on a dark lock, smiling at the slight pain he received for his trouble. He didn't know how but his hair had grown back, just as long and unruly as before.
"Freak! It's time to cook Dudley's breakfast," his aunt called, rapping on the door with her bony knuckles.
When he arrived in the kitchen, his aunt screamed, threatened him with no breakfast for the rest of the week but Harry didn't care. He was simply happy his hair grew back.
