Jo readjusted in the bed, opening her eyes slightly. Her tired mind tried to focus as she struggled to determine what had woken her. She heard the door to the bedroom squeak open and rolled her eyes while burying her head further into the pillow.
"Wilson, up."
Jo gritted her teeth and started to pull the bedding off of her body when Alex gripped her tighter, "No."
Jo looked up at Meredith questioningly before looking back over her shoulder at her boyfriend's peaceful face, his eyes still closed, "Alex, Grey is here."
Alex's eyes opened marginally and he rubbed her abdomen slightly under her tank top with his thumb, "I heard her."
Jo patted his hand, "Then let me up."
Alex shook his head and closed his eyes, "Did neither of you hear me? No."
Meredith sighed, "Alex…"
Alex turned towards his friend, "You promised. No showing up tonight."
"Well that was before my husband left me. Come on, I need to talk."
Jo watched the exchange with curiosity, she then squeezed Alex's arm, "It's really okay…"
Alex gave her a slight grin that disappeared quickly, "No it's not." He then turned to Meredith, "Look, either climb in or wait on the couch."
Meredith gave a slight disgusted look, "Do you have on clothes?"
Alex huffed and shifted back towards Jo to wrap his arm around her once more, "Of course." He then muttered, "Have to these days. Don't know when you're gonna show up."
Jo grinned at him over her shoulder before catching Meredith's cold eyes baring down on her. She quickly turned to face the bathroom door and smiled to herself as Alex sighed into her hair.
A few beats later she heard the mattress creak slightly as Meredith slipped in behind Alex with her back against the headboard, "Move over."
Alex sighed, "I'm not gonna get any more sleep am I?"
Meredith and Jo chimed in together, "No," with Jo's being a barely audible mumble. However, she could tell by Alex's soft chuckle he had heard it.
"Who just up and leaves their wife and kids? What kind of person does that? Someone who thinks they are the sun that's who."
Alex sighed sleepily, "Weren't you the one telling him to go?"
Meredith popped him on the shoulder, "Hey, whose side are you on here?"
Alex moaned, "I'm always on your side, I'm just saying…"
Meredith shifted to lay on her back in the bed, "Did I push too hard? He said I wasn't supportive but I was supportive right? I mean it's not like he's really been my biggest cheerleader. It's like in second year with our clinical trial…"
Jo yawned and shifted slightly, tuning out Meredith's speech. She heard Alex try to pacify her only to have Grey jump to a different topic. Jo pulled his hand that was still around her waist up to her lips to give his palm a quick kiss, hoping he understood how much his actions tonight had meant to her. He leaned forward slightly and whispered "goodnight" in her ear before kissing her shoulder softly. Jo squeezed his hand affectionately and drifted back off into a peaceful sleep.
