A/N: Yay! My first fanfiction! So please bear with me. Reviews are welcome (including constructive criticism)It's an OC fanfic.

Disclaimer: No, I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh. If I did, I wouldn't be doing this. But hey, who am I to complain?

Warnings: The story will have angst along with humor. Though, there's not a lot of angst in this chapter. I use the character's English names because unfortunately I do not have the Japanese ones memorized. Though, I don't really use them here.

So, let's begin!

I slowly woke up.

I didn't open my eyes just yet; I felt too tired to fully rise to consciousness.

My stiff back and body had the feeling of being asleep for a while and I didn't doubt it with the full extent of my grogginess.

There was a low resounding series of beeps emanating from somewhere in the room. Soon, it became annoyingly repetitive. What was the sound coming from?

My subconscious provided an answer: heart monitor.

I held my breath for a short second out of surprise. As a result, the beeping momentarily paused before continuing its metronomic rhythm.

So it was a heart monitor. But what was a heart monitor doing here?

And another question, where was 'here' at anyway? A hospital room, maybe? That seemed logical. It would explain the heart monitor and the uncomfortable stiffness in my back; hospital beds weren't famous for their unbelievable softness.

But why was I in a hospital? Had I been sick or underwent some sort of serious accident? I tried searching through my memories but found nothing. Nothing but deep blackness. I thought it would be a pretty good time to open my eyes at that time.

Slowly, I lifted my eye lids, only to find a very bright light that hurt to look at. I squeezed my eyes shut with a low moan.

I had to assess the situation. As far as I knew, I was lying down in a hospital for an unexplained reason. When I allowed my body to regain awareness, I could feel the IV sticking out of my left wrist which proved my hospital theory.

Again, I opened my eyes, this time straining against the bright light. After a few blinks, I could finally focus my vision on the paneled ceiling. I took in a quick gaze of the room.

I had been right; I was in a hospital room. To the left of me, I saw a vast arsenal of expensive machinery including the heart monitor that continued beeping. I sat up slowly and looked to my right. To my utter astonishment, there was a man. A very beautiful man with chestnut brown hair and pale white skin. He was sleeping, head resting on his arms on top of my bed. There were dark shadows underneath his closed eyes that suggested he needed the sleep he was currently getting.

I took in all these detail within a few short seconds before letting out a startled gasp. Who was this man and why was he here?

Automatically, at the sound of my surprise, the man instantly awoke revealing piercing cobalt blue eyes. He looked at me with a dazed expression before a wide grin that didn't really seem to be compatible with his sharp features broke across his face.

"You're awake!" he exclaimed. I stared at him blankly. Of course I was awake; otherwise I wouldn't be staring at him! He didn't pause to wait for a reply from me. Instead, he placed his hand on my cheek. His warm touch sent jolting butterflies in my stomach and I was suddenly frightened. What was he doing?

As if to answer my mental question, the man's face drew close to mine, paused, and touched his lips to mine.

The accelerating heart monitor was the only sound in the room and was momentarily my only frightened and dazed response to him. I suddenly realized he was kissing me and pushed him off with surprising strength.

"No!" I screamed with agonized terror. A look of bewilderment crossed his face.

"What's wrong?" he asked, lifting his hand about to touch my face again. I shrank back far away from it as I possibly could in the small hospital bed.

"Get away from me!" I shrieked. "Disgusting pervert!" The man frowned and paused, right hand suspended in mid-air.

"What are you talking about? It's me: Seto Kaiba!" The name meant nothing to me. I continued to stare at him uncomprehendingly. For some reason, he took that as an invitation to get closer to me by touching my face again. I shoved it away.

"I said get away from me!" I said, continuing to scream. He grabbed my wrist, trying to restrain me from my thrashing arms.

"It's me!" he repeated, as if I should know him. "Do you not remember?" I shook my head furiously, eyes closed shut, and tried prying my hand from his grip. It was a futile attempt; he was much stronger than me. But should I remember him?

"I don't know you," I mumbled. "Now let go of me!" That was louder but he still didn't let go. I opened my eyes and glared at him. He was gaping at me with disbelief. I drew my other hand back and slapped his face. He stumbled back away, letting go in the process. I took the opportunity and scrambled off the other side of the bed.

It was then that I realized I, unfortunately, couldn't dart out of the room like I wanted to because I was wired to the machines. Instead, I took the alternative by staying as far away from the man as I possibly could. My back was to the cold wall of the small room, the thin fabric of the hospital clothing unable to ward off the cold. He took a slow, deliberate step toward me.

"Stay back!" I said in a hoarse voice, my throat extremely dry. And when I thought about it, I felt completely drained of energy. It was then that a group of people burst into the room. One had the generic uniform of a doctor. And the four other women who had the pink outfits of a nurse. There was also a short old man with a shaggy mess of gray hair, most of it concealed beneath an orange bandana. The final person I took notice of was a short boy with tri-colored and spiky hair and amethyst purple eyes. I didn't know any of these people but after one glance at the boy, I instinctively knew I could trust him.

"What's going on here?" the doctor ordered the man who claimed to be Seto Kaiba.

"She woke up," the man said with blunt obviousness. This time, his baritone voice was cold, a trait that seemed to fit with his appearance. "She doesn't remember me, though." Seven pairs of astonished eyes turned to me slowly. The doctor took a single step to me, like Kaiba did, and I grimaced in response. He stopped and spoke to me in a low, soothing voice.

"Would you like to say what happened?" he asked. I nodded feebly.

"I woke up," my dry throat made my voice crack. I flushed with embarrassment but continued anyways. "And then he-" I jabbed my finger at the Kaiba man accusingly. "-kisses me. I told him to get away from me and he didn't so I got away from him!" The doctor turned to Kaiba.

"Well that was helpful," he said sarcastically. Kaiba only scoffed while glaring at the doctor. The doctor turned back to me.

"Now I need you to tell me something- Do you remember anything at all about your past?" I thought about his question and then searched my mind.

There was nothing.

I began panicking. The only thing in my head was empty dark space. Just a black hole. I didn't even know who I was!

I threw in the name 'Seto Kaiba' into the blackness to see if anything would come up. Nothing except the feeling of emptiness which I was sure had nothing to do with Seto Kaiba.

Then, I threw in the image of the boy's face into it. This time I got a better reaction. A strong wave of devotion washed over me but was quickly gone. At least it was something.

"Nothing," I whisper, almost inaudibly, to the doctor, paralyzed with fear. The doctor frowned.

"Well, how about your name?"

"My name?" I went back to the black hole and asked it for a name as if it were a crystal ball. There was another reaction: the black emptiness filled with lights of all color but then returned to its dark hole.

"There's just a bunch of lights, colorful lights," I said stupidly, hoping I made some sense to him. The doctor sighed in relief.

"That's a good sign," he assured me. "Your name is Aurora, like the aurora borealis or the northern lights if you prefer. Your name is Aurora Mutou."

"Aurora Mutou," I whispered to myself. The black hole emitted a satisfied recognition.

My name was- is- Aurora Mutou. And I was going to cling to that fact no matter what.
