Prompt: write a 100, 200, 300, or up to 900 word oneshot about one of J.K. Rowling's characters showing/having a reaction to some sort of mental/physical/psychological abuse they have gone through.

Snap.
The sound a twig makes outside my window. The sound made by hard shoes on the outside stairs. The sound my fingers make as they're pulled too far back.
Crackle.
The sound of the fireplace just behind me. The sound that should have been enveloping us as we fled to safety. (Be brave, Alice, be brave!) But only the mad are truly brave. And I am not mad.
Pop.
The sound as she Apparates away. The second-to-last sound I remember.
There is no word for that sound – the sound that tears my heart to pieces. Only a name.
