"It's you...It always has been and it always will be."
He takes two small paces towards her but she holds her hand up and signals him to stop. He lowers his voice almost to a whisper as though to hold back tears "Kate listen to me. Every day I can't believe how lucky I am to have met someone like you. Someone with your strength and determination. Someone who does not give up no matter how difficult it will be to succeed. Simply put you are the love of my life Kate and I have regretted every single moment that I have failed to tell you that."
A tear begins to break away from the corner of her eye. He continues.
"It has taken me a while to understand what real love is and if I have ever really felt it before, and for the past four years, I was oblivious to fact that it was right in front of me. You were right in front of me. I need you to know that I am sorry for the pain I have brought you these past few days, the last thing I wanted to do was hurt you. I know you are pissed off but I'm only thinking about you. All I ever do is think about you."
He begins to walk towards her again, this time she does not stop him. His voice gets quieter as he approaches her.
"So when you ask me, 'why are you still around?' 'What are you still here for?' The answer Kate is you. You are the reason I have been working with the NYPD all these years. I know that you're not in a place of commitment, but I am going to wait for you, because I know that I am waiting for the one and only love of my life."
They stand millimeters apart. Him contemplating her thoughts as she looks down to the wooden floor beneath them. She feels his presence in front of her. She needs him just as much as he needs her but she can't find the words to express herself. He has not taken his eye off of her since he finished. She slowly glanced up to make her eyes meet with his, she then moved her hand to gently wipe a tear streaming down his face as she placed her other hand on his chest. All time that once existed, no longer did. The moment had become so tranquil and perfect that time forgot to function. Before he was aware, their foreheads were resting on each other's, both just giving in and letting their bodies support each other. She slowly brought her lips to meet his and he did the same.
Time suddenly resumed and seemed to speed up in the heat of the moment as their lips interlocked. They tasted each other for the first time, him holding his hand up to the side of her face, making sure to remember every second.
