Title: Communication Problems

Disclaimer: Don't own Inception, wish I did though.

Notes: Silly little idea for when you miss-hear or get the wrong end of the stick of a conversation. And our poor Cobb is on the receiving end.

"Bottom or top?" Ariadne asked. Cobb blinked uncertain of his surroundings for a brief moment in time.

"What?" was his very intelligent reply.

"Top or bottom"

Cobb was still confused as to what Ariadne was referring to.

"Cause Eames said, and I could see why –" and Cobb quickly looked at his colleagues who were over the other side of his living room. Eames was holding a glass of red wine and Arthur a glass of white. The speakers were playing from Ariadne's iPod, David Bowie's voice echoed through out the house. Cobb leaned on oak counter with one hand, thinking about Ariadne's question whilst looking over at the two dream workers that he liked to call his colleagues, friends and family.

Top or bottom? Cobb blinked. Hard. No, that can't she's referring to. Can it?

"How should I know?" Cobb said, worried at where this conversation would lead to if he were to say any more. Arthur caught his eye and frowned but waved. Cobb waved back to show he had acknowledged Arthur's action. Eames and Arthur were in conversation about something. Eames was talking animatedly whilst Arthur nodded and flashed a small smile.

"Jeez, Cobb you're a guy" Ariadne said simply as if that was the answer to all male induced problems.

"Yes, but I don't see why I should instinctively know. After all I've worked with them – that's not what I think about as far as my colleagues-friends- are concerned"

"Dom what are you on about?" Ariadne asked.

"You said, top or bottom" Cobb said waving his other hand that did not have a glass of whisky in it, in Eames and Arthur's direction.

"I was talking about your drinks cabinet. Eames said that you should have your wines at the bottom. You said you were going to organise it and so I said I would help. What did you think I was talking about?"

Cobb suddenly felt awkward and sincerely stupid and a little dirty minded for that matter.

"Well – " he cleared his throat.

"Colleagues and friends?" Ariadne mused and then looked at Eames and Arthur. A smile, a horrible grin smeared her lips.

"You thought I meant top or bottom?" and she was reduced to giggles. Cobb groaned to himself. He never likes being laughed at, and least by Ariadne who laid a hand on his arm but kept laughing.

"It's not that funny Ariadne"

"No wonder you didn't give me a straight answer" she laughed, taking breaths. She was calming down slowly.

"Hey, could you possibly come over here and join our little soiree? We're missing you" Eames called and Cobb held an arm for Ariadne to go first. She turned and flashed a look.

"By the way Eames tops" she whispered before walking over to Eames and Arthur

Cobb downed the rest of his whisky in one.
