Everybody Cries
He attended the funeral the same as everyone else did. Sat in the back row and bit down on his lip until it bled. He didn't cry. He refused to let them know how much he was hurting inside.
They were always leaving flowers at the graveside, bunches of cheap carnations in equally cheap cellophane that had been purchased from the local garage. He only left flowers on one occasion. A single white lily that he placed against the headstone on Tony's eighteenth birthday.
She sat in the long grass every Sunday morning, telling tales and heartfelt I love you's, the tears flowing freely.
He only visited when it rained, knelt down at the foot of the grave, staring, his hands balled into fists as the raindrops bounced off his face.
