(The Warden meets her first farm animal. It doesn't go well.)

It had been a long day trekking across the Bannorn. Leliana had first come across the farm while scouting and found it empty. She'd rushed back to the group for back up to investigate. The barn and farmhouse had been empty but hadn't shown signs of violence or long-term abandonment. There were no valuables left behind, nor any large animals. The plants and earth in the area still looked healthy. Perhaps the family who had once lived here had been some of the lucky ones and evacuated ahead of the darkspawn and the decay that followed them.

The party decided to rest at the abandoned farm. The mage busied herself by patrolling the area for likely kindling. She hummed to herself happily, sleeping under a roof that wasn't canvas would be a welcome change, even if just for a night or two. A couple of the men had taken Fang with them and gone in search of game for the stew pot.

She'd spied a particularly robust looking specimen of elfroot heavy with seed pods that practically begged her to take a sample when she heard a strange noise.

Honk. Honk! HONK!

A plump feathered creature with webbed feet came waddling up to the Warden. Its black eyes seemed intelligent.

"Oh my, you're a pretty thing, aren't you?" she said. "What are you called, hm?"

Honk, said the white bird.

She strained her memory. A friend had once said something about these creatures, but it eluded her.

"How's the pretty... duck?"

Apparently, that was the wrong answer. It hissed and leaped at her, trying to bite her boot. She backed away several feet, but the creature followed, trying to attack again. Screaming, she dropped the kindling and ran for the farmhouse. The wretched beast was close on her heels and she only just barely managed to slam the door in its face.

Wynne looked up from the stew pot hanging over the hearth questioningly. "Is something wrong?"

The Warden pressed herself against the door. Angry honks could be heard from the other side.

"I think I may have found a demon. It tried to attack me!"

The elder mage knit her brows together and peeked out the window.

"Sevarra. That's a goose."

"Maker's tits it's not! It's a demon with feathers and a beak!" she shot back.
