-Prologue—
"Kyubey, w…why did that happen?" The blonde girl asked with a shaky voice. Her golden eyes were full of tears and an unmistakable hint of fear. She lay curled up in her bed, watching the toy-like creature standing atop her dresser, which stared back at her unblinkingly.
"Soul gems are, as you know, containers of a puella magi's soul. When the puella magi produces negative emotional energy or uses up part of her magical energy, her soul gem would become darker. Grief seeds can remove those negative emotions from the soul gem. Of course, if you don't clean your gem, the negative energy stored inside will be too much and your soul gem would break and turn into a grief seed. That's what happened to Nakamura Fujiko, the girl whom you saw not long ago."
The horrible scene she'd witnessed flashed before the girl's eyes. That narrow dark alley. Following the faint pleas of help, she came to the dark corner where an older girl lay. From her clothes the girl could tell that she was a puella magi, but what shocked her most was the colour of her soul gem. Originally probably indigo, it now looked as dark as soot. She could do nothing as a tear, brightly reflecting the streetlamp at the end of the alley, struck the darkened soul gem. The sound of shattering glass echoed through the night as the gem broke and turned into a grief seed. Chills ran down her spine as she witnessed this process.
"Now I'm guessing you wouldn't want to contract me. Never mind, I'll go and search for others." Kyubey said, turning and starting to leave the room.
"Wait! I can't just run away from this cruel truth. There are a lot of girls out there bearing this destiny. If there's nothing I can do, at least I should bear it with them. I believe that I can overcome this fate. And I'll help other puella magi do that too." The girl's golden eyes were shining with childish determination.
"Very well. What is your wish then?" The incubator turned, red pupils shining.
"I wish to…try to protect some, if not all, of the other puella magi from this fate alongside my friends!"
"Kikuta Mio, your wish has surpassed entropy. Take hold of your destiny."
A golden soul gem suddenly appeared out of the girl's chest. She grasped it with both hands and watched the world around her fade into blackness.
Ok, guys, the prologue is crappy. I hope the first chapter will be better. It'll be revolving around Mio, the first main character introduced, in their first timeline, as she tries to save Madoka. It'll be longer, I suppose. Please don't be misled by the crappy prologue in the way that you think this fanfic is crap. Thanks for reading!
