Post ep: War Crimes

*I still don't know what I was waiting for

And my time was running wild

A million dead-end streets

Every time I thought I'd got it made

It seemed the taste was not so sweet

So I turned myself to face me

But I've never caught a glimpse

Of how the others must see the faker

I'm much too fast to take that test*

Ooh, Toby only plays Bowie when he's upset. I walk towards his

office, peeking around the door to make sure he'snot pacing or

throwing that pink ball. He's doing neither. He's just sitting there

with his head in his hands. I slowly walk up to his deesk. "What are

you doing here?"

He looks up at me. "I thought you went home."

"I had to help Carol out with some stuff. So waht are you doing here?

I thought you 'weren't here'."

"I'm.. sitting here...listening to David Bowie."

"Exactly," I say, leaning on the desk.

"What?"

"You only listen to Bowie when your upset."

"Thats not true," he insists.

"Yes it is."

"How is it that you know me so well," he asks with a smirk, but I can

tell he's intereste din hearing my answer.

"You tell me everything."

"I tell you nothing."

"Yeah, but I talk to Cj," I say, mirroring his smirk.

"You women with your gossip."

"So what's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong. Can't a man listen to a rock legend without being

accused of something?"

"Not when that man is you," I say seriously."What's wrong?"

"It's just..." he takes a deep breath in, thinking. "Nothing's the

same. A year ago we were trying to get laws passed. The regular

politicall stuff. Now we're trying to protect ourselves against a

grand jury and we're trying to win an election that we might not be

able to win and there are people who don't think they need to feel

loyal to us."

"Is that what this is about? the leak?"

"Yes. No. It's just that.. Dammit, Ginger, thousands of people are

starving to death a day. people are being killed by guns that have

been legally purchased, and the only thing the american people want

to know about is what the *president* did wrong. Not what their

neighbors and their friends did, but the leader of the free world,

just because it's so much better than hearing about their friends

problems. So yeah, I am mad about the leak, because right now, we

have no support, and we can't just have people who are on our team

shooting their mouths off." His voice raises as he speaks, and I just

have to say that I admire this man. He worries about the people he

doesn't even know, and is hurt when somebody betrays us, because

right now that's the only thing we have: eachother.

Toby walks over to the couch and sits down. I sit next to him as the

song changes. "I like this song," I say.

"You like Bowie?" He asks.

"yes, does that surprise you?"

"A little. You know so much about me, but I know almost nothing about

you."

"Well, maybe we could sit down sometime and really talk, you know,

not about politics."

"I'd like that," he says. "I'd like to get to know you better."

We sit in silence listening to David Bowie sing. "You're wearing out,

aren't you?" I ask quietly.

He nods. "Yeah."

I nod back. "Yeah. Me too."
