He wants to beg her, yell at her until she finally sees what she means to him. He's so tired of trying, trying to forget her. If only she'd just see, if only she'd take that step. As he sees her out of the corner of his eye, he feels that familiar tugging on his heart as the words replay over and over in his brain.

Love me

Love me

Please, please love me

They've both been tossed around and broken. Somehow, though he never stopped believing in love. He doesn't know how but his heart held on. Now as he faces her, he sees the hollowness in her blue eyes and he knows somewhere along the way she forgot how. He wants her to understand him, wants her to see that all he wants is the future he can't stop dreaming of.

Trust me

Trust me

Just take my hand and trust me

He thinks maybe she just doesn't get it. Maybe she doesn't realize that he'll never leave. He's not like the others, his place is with her. If she could just see that, hear the words that are on his heart. If she could just let go, just let go and believe he thinks that maybe, maybe everything would be all right. As he looks at her though, as he sees her fake her best smile he knows she just doesn't understand.

I'm yours

I'm yours

Can't you see I'll always be yours

Instead, she shows no emotion, ten minutes before the New Year and her eyes are blank. She's saying words that he knows she means. Words like 'I'm sorry' and 'I'll try', but it doesn't feel like enough. He watches and he can feel himself shattering all over again. She fidgets and she shuffles trying to make things right. He knows can take her back, he can kiss her and hold her, but the end will be the same. She's not ready, he can see it in her eyes. She's still not there yet, not at that place where she can be free to love. He knows he has no choice. His mind whirls as he stares at her, words playing on his mind that he simply doesn't know how to say.

I'm sorry

I'm sorry

I can't do this again, I'm sorry

He watches as she tears up, and her mouth twists together. He blinks away his own tears and wants to run away now. He loves her, needs her, but can't hurt anymore. He drops his head as she speaks softly, and he swallows hard as her words register in his head. 'Don't give up on me yet' plays over and over in his head as he looks down at her and grabs her hand. His heart skips and he wants to take her in his arms and show her how much he loves her. He wants to let her know that even if he wanted to he cannot get her out of his system. He feels the lump hang in his throat and though he can't say the words he thinks she sees them in his eyes.

No way

No way

There's no way I'll ever give up
