NekoDoodle:... I do not own Atla. The evil overlords of Vis(???) media do.
Also, this is AU
Ever since Zuko joined the Gaang he knew he was being watched. It didn't surprise him, after all if they just blindly trusted him; he would've had to change his opinion on joining them.
Still, even though he felt them staring at him at every turn he ignored them. He was doing the right thing. He had done less than savory things in the past. If a person like him was allowed penance he was paying it.
He repeated these reasons to himself every day it seemed. Giving him a little leeway wouldn't kill them, would it? Well according to Katara; Yes.
They still thought of him like that, after he had gone with Aang to the Dragons. After he had gone with Sokka to release Suki and Hadoka, even after had helped Katara find the one who murdered her mother. He was still Zuko Prince of the Fire Nation and would most likely betray them any minute now.
He hated it, he deserved it. He knew he deserved it after what he had done to Uncle Iroh. That never meant he had to like it though.
He saw how much it pained them to give him the reigns of Appa to find Aang. He knew that they were waiting for him to turn them towards the Fire Nation Capital. It hurt.
When Aang's attack on Ozai went horribly wrong they blamed him. Katara blamed him, Sokka barely even tried to defend him.
He was grateful he couldn't see their faces then. He was thankful for the interference he had done; stepping in front of Aang. In front of the fireball. It confused him, how he had only lost his sight because of that.
Only he knew of that, Aang thought he had dispersed it. Even though the war still hadn't been won. Even though he could only see with infrared vision; he could still feel their untrusting eyes following him. Waiting to find something that they could say he did. Waiting to toss him out.
He had learned that he wanted that day to come very soon.
A/N: Don't ask me where this came from... I've been thinking of Zuko becoming blind and seeing with firebending and... I'd call this a drabble but it's a bit too long.
