This is my final part of the Too Perfect and Better Than This series. I know I haven't written in a while but I have not forgotten about these. There was actually a resurgence of people reviewing my stuff and that was what prompted me to start again, hint hint.
Jack walked into the hospital hesitantly. He had debated this decision for almost a month and had sat in the car for almost two hours. He knew he didn't have much time, and this was his only chance. When he finally did make to get out the car his feet didn't move. It took all of his power to start walking in the direction of the hospital door.
It had been so long. Thirty years, and he was still afraid of this moment. The hospital staff was looking at him cautiously. The famous Captain Jack Harkness was looking terrified and uncomfortable. This was not what he was used to. He had never done anything like this before. He hoped he would never have to again. He took a deep breath before opening the door.
Ianto Jones was lying in the bed, half awake. He had been in the hospital for far too long now and he wasn't sure what he was holding on for. Everyday for the past thirty years had been the same monotonous motions. Nothing surprised him for thirty years, until Jack Harkness walked through the door.
Jack took in the sight of his past lover and he could feel his chest tighten. After all this time, he was still in love with the man before him. Out of everything he had done in his long life, walking out on this man was the only thing he truly regretted.
"Jack?" Ianto's voice was course and strained.
"Hey," Jack said sitting in the chair next to Ianto's bed.
"Is that really you?"
"Yeah it's me."
"What are you doing here?" Ianto asked.
"I'm here to see you." Jack took Ianto's frail hand in his, rubbing it gently. It wasn't the same had he remembered, but it felt so warm wrapped in his. It felt so right.
"Why?"
"I missed you."
"I didn't think you'd come." Ianto started coughing and his grip on Jack's hand tightened.
"Of course I'd come." Jack started tearing now.
"Not long now."
"Oh Ianto," Jack whispered as he brought Ianto's hand to his lips.
"It's okay Jack. Really, it is."
"I'm so sorry Ianto. Oh I'm so sorry. I should have stayed, I should have-"
"Shhhh. Stay now, just stay now."
"I will."
Jack walked out of the hospital a few hours later, tears running down his cheek. He stayed with Ianto until the final moment, and sometime after. Jack got back into his car and took a deep breath. For the rest of eternity he would remember the perfect years with Ianto Jones and how nothing was ever better than that.
Tell me what you think- TOL
