My world is made up of amazing, fantastic people. It is made up of politicians, Nurses, Teachers, Mums and Next door neighbours. It's made up of superheroes, mutants, knights in shining armour and servants with hidden powers and awful fashion sense. It is made up of witches and wizards and consulting detectives and vigilantes. And this world is protected by a man. A mad man who stole a magic box but he's not always here, after all he has a whole universe to defend. So this world has had to learn to defend itself. Torchwood came first, a force out to grab and destroy in the name of defence but one man changed that. An ordinary man who cannot die and with his small group of ordinary people he did an extraordinary job. Next is UNIT in their red berets. They are militarised and ready to do whatever it takes to protect against extra-terrestrial forces. That mad man never did like UNIT, too many guns, but they did their job in an impossible world, they defended it. But what about when they couldn't? Here the Avengers step forwards. A renegade group of superhero's ready to defend the Earth. And if they couldn't defend it? Well, you can be damn sure they'll avenge it.
So this is my world were Superheroes and military organisations protect the world, vigilantes patrol the streets and a mad man in a box protects the universe. These are the hero's that save the world again and again from evils that we never know. But then anybody can be a hero and no one can. The Avengers with two assassins, ledgers soaked in blood. A God and a boy thrust into a world they don't understand. And two men with brains the size of planets and personality issues to match. All hero's but are they a team or a time bomb? And then there is The Doctor, a man whose name is written in the stars of the medusa cascade. He is the defender of those that cannot defend themselves, a hoper of lost hopes and a dreamer of far flung dreams. But is he warrior or Doctor? Committer of genocide or saviour of worlds? Hero or simply a mad man in a box who dares not look back and never carry's a gun. All heroes have a past and every ordinary person has a future. After all Captain America is just a kid from Brooklyn who saved the world … twice.
AN: I have always found Doctor Who incredibly inspiring so this is where this stems from really. Anybody can be hero and not every kind of hero involves blowing things up. I think its the positive can do attitude of the Doctor in the face of anything that is infectious. I really do think it has helped shape my perspective of the world and my desire to help shape it for the better as well as the belief that anyone can make a difference, even me. This could just be the wild ramblings of a deluded fan girl though. Please someone agree with me!
