Chapter 1

New Feelings

Jane POV

"Jane, Heidi is here" Alec yelled from the first floor.

"I'm coming" Jane yelled back from her room on the second floor. Jane was finishing writing in her journal. Jane Rosen was a determined girl ever since she was a kid. Strong, determined, and beautiful. Now at the age of 17 nothing has changed. Not even the odd characteristic about her not being interested in boys.

Jane dotted the last period and jumped off her bed. Jane closed her sea green notebook and hid it in the back of her over flowing bookshelf.

Either sell some or get a new bookshelf. No way in hell is she selling them.

Jane threw on her black converse on and ran down the stairs to the kitchen where she found her twin brother, Alec leaning on the kitchen island winking at her best friend, Heidi.

Jane coughed loudly making Alec glare at her and Heidi to jump back and fiddle with her hair.

Awkward moments are never missing in my life Jane thought.

For a while there was an awkward silence until Alec broke it.

"Are you going to stand there or are you going to leave. I wouldn't mind Heidi staying" Alec said sneaking a wink. Oh barf.

"I'll leave then" Jane said grabbing Heidi's wrist before she could give him another flirty look. Jane nearly ran out the door with Heidi on her heels. Jane shut the door to her house glaring at her best friend.

"What's with you, Heidi?" Jane asked " That's my brother. In other words, nasty"

"You say nasty, I say yummy" Heidi said shaking her hips as they walked down the path to Heidi's silver BMW.

"Ew, just ew" Jane said sitting in the passenger seat while Heidi got in the driver's seat.

"So, how's the…er…parent issue?" Jane asked awkwardly. Heidi's parents have been fighting for months now and Heidi said they've been going to therapy for almost a year.

Heidi sighed and gripped the steering wheel. "No, the fighting just gets worse and I don't know how much longer I can take it" Heidi's voice broke at the end and sounded like she was on the verge of tears.

Jane's mind always went black at moments like this but Heidi has been her best friend for so long she had to try. Jane reached her hand on Heidi's shoulder and pulled some of her long, curly mahogany hair out of her face.

" It'll be okay, Heidi"

"How can you be so sure? Are you telling me they aren't going to divorce?"

"No, but I know things will work out some how."

Heidi snorted making Jane laugh. Heidi smiled , but it didn't reach her eyes.

Heidi pulled in front of her house . She opened the door and they found her parents shouting and walking away from each other.

"Well, go on and leave then if that's what you want.", Mr. Volturi said as Mrs. Volturi walked out of the room.

His eyes found them and they locked on Jane's.
