Rei took a deep breath, her finger hovering over the doorbell for a second before she pressed it. There was silence for a few seconds until she heard footsteps and she nervously adjusted her floppy black hat as the door opened.

'You made it,' Asuka said, with a grin. She was dressed in a dark red t-shirt and black pants that complemented her red hair, as well as a wolf-ears on her head.

'Yes,' Rei said. '...thank you for inviting me...'

'You're welcome. I love your costume. It's really cute...'

'...thank you,' Rei repeated, feeling her cheeks heating at Asuka's complement and she hopes that she does not notice as she steps inside. 'I...like yours...'

'Thanks. I make a pretty cute werewolf, don't it?' She said, with a smirk, nudging Rei with her elbow.

'Well, go on through,' Asuka says. 'Everyone's in the lounge and there's food and drink. Enjoy yourself...'

##############

Rei stepped into the lounge, finding herself surrounded by a crowd of people dressed as werewolves, ghosts, skeletons, witches and zombies.

'Rei' A voice called and Rei looked round to see a figure wrapped in bandages, waving at her.

'Hello, Shinji,' Rei said, with a smile, moving over to join him.

'What are you supposed to be?' She asked and Shinji frowned.

'I'm...a mummy. Haven't you seen the Curse of Tutenkhamun?'

'Was it a book?'

'Never mind,' Shinji said. 'Did you want a drink?'

'What is it?' Rei asked, as Shinji handed her a glass of orange liquid.

'Apparently, it's Asuka's Halloween Punch. She won't tell me what's in it...'

Rei took a sip, glancing up in time to see Asuka enter the room, feeling her throat go dry.

'She's pretty incredible, isn't she?' Shinji asked and Rei nodded.

'Yes...' She said, feeling her cheeks heating up again. 'Excuse me. I think I'm going to get some air...'

################

'What are you doing out here?' Asuka demanded and Rei looked up to see her storming across the grass towards her.

'I was just getting some air,' she began, but Asuka cut her off.

'You should come back inside. The dancing's about to start...

'I don't think that's me...'

'Come on,' Asuka said, grabbing her hand and pulling her to her feet. 'It's better than sitting out here by yourself. There must be someone you want to dance with...'

'There is, but I'm not sure they want to dance with me...'

'Really. Who is it?'

'...you.'

Asuka stated at her for a moment before stepping back and holding out her hand.

'Come on...'

'What?'

'You said you wanted to dance...'

Rei hesitated before taking her hand, Asuka leading her to the centre of the grass, her other handing resting on her hip as they start to dance. Despite herself, Rei smiles. Tomorrow, they will need to start to sort this out. Tonight, she just wants to enjoy this...
