It was one of the few quiet moments that we had alone, just to ourselves. The baby and Sierra were finally asleep.
"I hate to tell you this Montana, but I think we're going to have to move. That or sell Sierra to the circus," I lay spooned behind her. Lindsay's slow rhythmic breathing always calmed me after a long hectic day.
"Danny," she admonished with mock anger.
"What? She wants to join," I chuckled into her neck.
She sighed. "I know. I know we need a bigger place. Sometimes it feels like we are just zookeepers, or ringleaders. And I do want to be able to have visitors come and stay in our zoo."
"Well this place was probably big enough for you and Sierra, but now we are four, that is if you don't count the dog, cat, and Jasper's growing family."
"You should have never bought that second rabbit, I tried to warn you."
"They told me it was a male rabbit," I grumbled. I still felt foolish about that mistake.
"They lied." I had to laugh at that, it was quite obvious that it was not a boy rabbit, when about a month later we were surprised to find 6 new rabbits. Sierra was thrilled thinking Christmas had come early.
"Where do you see yourself living?" I decided to steer the conversation back to a larger place to live, especially if Sierra and Lindsay refused to give away any rabbits.
"Hmm I don't know. A place big enough for Sierra and Dominic to have their own rooms."
"What about Jasper does he need his own room?" I said cheekily. Lindsay turned in my hold. She tried to hold in her laugh as she smacked me lightly on my chest, before tracing a finger softly along my cheek.
"Very funny, Danny. I think Jasper can still share his room with an office. So what are we up to now? Four Bedrooms. And someplace for the kids to play. A nice picture window, good neighborhood, good schools."
"Anything you like sweetie, within reason of course," I said. Lindsay's sweet smelling hair was pulling me to sleep.
"Well that settles that then, we'll just have to move to Montana" she said into my chest. And all of a sudden I was awake again. Lindsay had never mentioned anything about moving out of Las Vegas. I racked my brain trying to think if Lindsay had hinted that she might want to move back to Montana. She loved her job at the crime lab in Las Vegas, was happy to be working again after her maternity leave and I was quite happy playing Mr. Mom with my easy schedule of teaching, making up for lost time with Sierra. Lindsay did sometimes hint about missing New York. Mostly missing the team, especially Stella, seeing an opera or a ballet at the Met. Every time they had Chinese she would compare it wistfully to the egg rolls from Mr. Cho's Chinese restaurant that was below her old apartment in Brooklyn. I didn't think she had ever suggested moving, but frankly if she wanted to move to the Moon, I would follow her.
"Okay. If you want to go to Montana, we go."
Her eyes flashed open, started to sit up abruptly, to look me properly in the face. "I wasn't serious about Montana, Danny. It was a great place to grow up, but as long as we're together anywhere will be perfect. As long as I have you, and the kids have you, we are fine anywhere." I just hugged her tighter, glad to know that she felt that way. That no matter where we lived our home was together.
She kissed me sweetly before adding, "But if we were eventually within delivery distance of my favorite eggs rolls, it would be a huge plus."
