My Baby Brother
The nurse said that 366 babies were born in the hospital in May, but my baby brother, Sasuke, came out top for crying.
I bet it was unbelievably scary for him, being pushed out of his little, windowless home inside Mum's belly, into a bright white bedroom that smelled of bubble bath and coffee. A machine beeped, Dad went out the door, banging it shut behind him, and a doctor with a stethoscope draped around his neck talked to Mum in a foreign accent. Sasuke must have thought that someone had turned the volume right up to max. Poor little squirt.
He started to cry so loudly in his see-through plastic cot that I thought my eardrums would brust. It didn't take a rocket scientist to work out that he was completely freaked out by it all.
Sasuke stretched out his chubby legs.
I brought my face close to his. "if you were still inside Mum's belly, you wouldn't be able to do that," I said. "There wasn't enough room, remember?"
For half a second, Sasuke stopped crying, but then the nurse went and picked him up and he was off again.
"My goodness, you've got a pair of lungs on you," she said as she bundle him up in the soft knitted blanked that had once belonged to me. I wasn't so sure that I wanted him to have my old blanky, but I couldn't think of a good excuse why not.
"What you need is a cuddle," the nurse went on.
Sasuke screwed up his face, turned the colour of raspberry and let out an almighty wail, as if he was about to be murdered.
"Why don't you see what you can do," the nurse said to me.
I stared at her open-mouthed. I wasn't exactly Super nanny:
But before I knew it, Sauke was plonked in my arms, still screeching, and I was rocking him, at that same time looking desperately around for someone to pass him to.
"I'm your older brother Itachi," I said in a shaky voice. "And I'm going to take care of you."
Sasuke stoped crying.
Maybe it was OK for him to have my old blanky after all.
Okay, so this is my second story so I would like to get some more reviews and advices. And thank you for reading my story, hope you enjoyed it.
