Summary: Tezuka didnt understand

Tezuka didn't understand, and very few things ever confused him. Words were never difficult for him; he just refused to ever waste them. He always spoke the truth, and only good ever became of it. So he didn't understand how two simple words could change his world so drastically.

He stood there under the spring sky as sakura petals danced around him. Today was like a fairytale; the epitome of the perfect day. The sun was high, the sky was a deep blue and the wind sang softly to him. Yes, today was perfect. It was suppose to be.

He turned and saw the familiar faces of the Seigaku regulars from his junior high days. All genuinely happy for him. Even Fuji. Where was Fuji? He sighed inaudibly and saw that Fuji was apart from everyone, staying in the very back. But…Fuji was happy for him right? Smiling as carefree as the first day they met, so of course he was. Naturally. Then it happened. He saw it. The smile never reached his downcast eyes. They appeared distant and glassy.

He didn't understand it. Why? Fuji was one of his closest friends. He valued every moment they shared. Why was Fuji so… sad? Their eyes met and as if on cue, a single tear rolled down Fuji's cheek, a wistful expression on his face.

They stared at each other for what felt like an eternity, just lost in each other's gaze. Fuji broke away first and raised his fingers to his lips. He blew Tezuka a kiss. Turned. And walked away.

Tezuka wanted to call after him. He wanted to tell him to stay. But as he watched Fuji's retreating form, he realized something. He understood. He didn't want to understand. This was a mistaken. He wasn't supposed to be here. But he was.

He turned to face the figure adjacent to him. Soft, smooth, saintly. This person was perfect. This person was his beloved, and he had just said the two words he dreaded the most now. He lied, in front of everyone he cared about. He did it for his family, career and maybe his future. This was his responsibility. But it wasn't what he wanted. He wanted Fuji. Fuji Syuusuke. Seigaku's tensai. His friend. His Pillar. He wanted Fuji to stay. Tezuka realized one thing on this important day. He loved Fuji. He did then, he does now, and he will until the end. But in the moment their eyes met they said 'goodbye'. Those eyes reflected a love that had always been. A love he took for granted. A love he realized too late.

Words work wonders. And his can never be taken back. Tezuka always spoke the truth, and only good ever came from it. But now he wondered: how could anything good come from saying 'I do.'
