The Alpha
Tension flows through the pack,
a rumble starts low, and then grows louder.
a challenge has been issued,
a fight for dominance.
The order of wolves must be kept.
an onlooker stares, prepared to run,
should things get to wild and close.
startled she stares almost as
intrigued as scared while,
the order of wolves is kept.
Anni M. Crouter watches,
as the alpha defends his place.
watching with baited breathe,
to see who the lone wolf will be.
The alpha throws down his challenger.
leaping on top, muzzle at this throat.
stepping back he growls quietly,
the challenger stands up.
tail between his legs, he runs away.
the new lone wolf.
and the order of wolves continues.
I wrote this for a poem competition and I won 3rd place with it! The competition was from High schools, and Middle schools all across VA
