Hello friends! Here, enjoy some fluffy Gracen in this moment of turmoil. You are very welcome
He couldn't bare seeing his family falling apart because of the high probability he and Cal were going to die in five years. He wanted them to enjoy the time they had, so he said the first thing that came to his mind.
"Maybe we should just… go"
"Go where?" she asked
"Back to that beach"
"Jamaica" she said, his suggestion took her back to brighter and simpler times for a moment.
"Just… the four of us… Be together"
And she immediately broke. She had to tell him, they had promised no more secrets and he had all the right to know.
"There is something I need to tell you" she told him, a tear falling down her cheek.
She took his hand so they could go a place somewhat private; she didn't want the kids to know just yet.
"What is it? Is not like this day could get any worse" he said with a slight chuckled.
It took her a second to gather her emotions and blurt it out.
"I'm pregnant"
He couldn't believe it. It was the best news he's gotten in a while. He asked her if she was sure with just one look, and she reassured him with another. He had tears of joy now, happiness couldn't compare to what he was feeling.
"How far along are you?"
"Not long. Six weeks maybe"
"Right before the plane… came back. Or days before" Realization struck him like a lighting bolt. This couldn't be happening. Her baby had to be his otherwise he won't be able to take it. Too many things going on at once, and his little hope, that this baby was going to bring happiness, shattered.
All he could do was hug her. She wasn't happy either, he could see it in her eyes. The idea of the baby being Danny's scared her as well. Another obstacle they had to confront. But they will do it together, for their family's sake, and their own.
(…)
Six months later…
He woke up before her as usual. This time, instead of going to the kitchen to bring her coffee like he always did, he decided to stay in bed. She was sleeping on her side, facing him. She was beautiful; pregnancy looked good on her. Grace was nearly 8 months pregnant now.
Her breathing was steady, her hand on her belly as a way of protecting their baby.
Yes, their baby.
They weren't sure if they baby was his yet, but he still loved this little person. He loved this baby because it could potentially be his, but most importantly, because it was hers. It was hers; the love of his life, the mother of his twins, his best friend, his everything. How could he not love something of hers, he simply could not. So, he decided to love this baby as if were his, even though there was a probability it wasn't.
He leaned over and kissed her shoulder, making her move a little. She sighed contentedly; she loved it when he woke her up with a kiss.
"Good morning" he said
She opened her eyes slowly, and then whispered a "good morning" back.
"How is my beautiful wife feeling this morning?"
"I'm happy" she told him with a smile. It was rare of her to be happy these days. With the 'expiration dates' situation, and the possibility of the baby not being his, she didn't smile often. But she did, and he loved it.
"I'm happy that you're happy" he told her before giving her a kiss on her forehead. He rubbed her belly like he did every morning and whispered a "good morning to you too baby".
"Okay let me get the kids their lunches ready" she told him while attempting to get up. It was harder each day because the baby was growing, and it made it difficult for her to do her daily tasks; like getting out of bed.
He grabbed her before she could try another attempt, and they both laughed.
"Stay here with me" he pleaded.
She giggled a bit, and he cuddled her. He wrapped his arms around her and gave her another kiss, this time on her mouth.
She kissed him back, and he appreciated that. They both sighed into the kiss, and she moved her hand to caress the back of his neck. They stopped for a moment, and she took advantage of that to tell him "I love you Ben. I love that you love this child no matter if it is yours or not. I love that you love me no matter how hurt you are"
"Baby I could never not love you, or this child. It is your child, and I will always love anything that's yours" he reassured her, and she kissed him again.
They were both happy, they had to try to be happy for the family, and they were trying.
It was working.
They were at a place now where it didn't matter how many things life could throw at them, they would face all the obstacles together, as the married couple they were.
Their love was enough.
