"Soul!" screamed Maka

shrilly as she was thrown by the demon they were fighting. There was a loud

thump as she hit the concrete wall.

The demon advanced on her, claws ready to strike. "Maka!" cried

Soul, turning back into his human form.

He

ran fast, trying de

sperately to get to Maka b

efore the demon could hurt her. But it was too late.

The

sharp claws came down on Maka.

Then there was blood. A lot of blood. Maka's chest bore a long gash

that was bleeding heavily. "MAKA!"

"Gah" gasped

Soul, jerking awake from his nightmare.

It came every night, forcing him to relive the

night he almost lost his miester. He sat up drenched in cold sweat, tears running down his face from his

blood red eyes. "Maka" he said quietly, his voice shaking.

He d

rew his knees up to his chin and sobbed

quietly, afraid to go back to sleep.

The next day

Soul walked slowly to the DWMA. He went straight to the hospital and planned to spend yet another

day sitting next to Maka's bed. Waiting for her to wake up.

His feet dragged on the gground as he made

his way there.

He sat there all day. Right next to her. Holding her hand. Tears tried to come a few times, but he

wouldnt let them spill over.

It had been two weeks since she was injured and she hadn't wok

en up yet.

Soul was starting to give up on her. He

was

doubting that she'd ever wake up.

"Say something I'm giving

up on you" he sang softly, as he has taken to doing every day. He felt a lump on his throat. He let the

tears spill over this time.

"

Is this how it felt for you when I got hurt? Oh god, I'm sorry Maka. This is all my fault."

He stroked

her cheek softly and continued his song. "

I'll be the one if you want me to. Anywhere I

would have

followed you. Say

something I'm giving up on you."

S

oul stayed until

8 o'clock. Just as he did every night. Then, slowly he got up, and walked down the

darkened hallway.

"Soul!" came a voice. But he shook it off as nothing. "Dammit, now you're hearing her voice." He

said to himself. But then i

t happened again, this time accompanied by light footsteps. He stopped dead

in his tracks, his eyes wide with disbelief.

He whipped around to look back towards he hospital. And there she was. Just standing there, in her

white hospital gown. Looking

down the hallway at him. "Please don't give up on me" she said. The tears

filled Soul's eyes again. But he didn't care this time. He was already racing down the hallway towards

her.

And then he did something unexpected.

Instead of hugging Maka lik

e she thought would happen, he did something else. He stopped a few

inches a

w

ay from her, a huge smile on his face.

He cupped her face in his hands, and kissed her hard. It

lasted a while, and he drew her against him. They broke apart, but he still didn't

let her go.

Soul Eater Evans made a promise to himself that day. Hat he would never let her go again
