Resurrecting Basil
It was the aftermath after a long night of torture, fighting, and running that Basil, Dawson, Esmeralda, and Clopin were in a train. Dawson had to rescue Basil that he found him injured, which was the reason why Basil was the only one lying on the ground. He had on a created arm bandage, since he suffered a broken shoulder. Esmeralda was cradling his head humming to him while Dawson was going over wounds of his own and stitching them. Clopin was looking out the door, thinking about his people who've died from the fight.
While Esmeralda was humming to Basil, she noticed him close his eyes. Concerned, she covered her hand to his mouth. She said noticing no breeze, "He's not breathing."
Dawson and Clopin looked to her and then to Basil. Dawson crawled closer to Basil that he felt his pulse. There was no life in his friend.
"Lay him down," Dawson told Esmeralda. "Straighten him."
Clopin also went over and helped to lay Basil comfortably on the ground. Dawson knelt down to Basil.
"Bloody are not going to die on me," said Dawson.
Dawson started to push hard on Basil's chest. He did it three times and felt Basil's throat. Nothing.
"I know you can hear me you selfish bastard!" Dawson said angrily.
He pressed harder, harder, harder, but Basil didn't move at all.
"Come on! Come on!"
Dawson instead hit Basil's chest, trying to wake him. Esmeralda noticed that Dawson was desperate though Basil was still out.
"Wake up Basil!" Dawson yelled.
She went to Dawson and forced him to stop. Dawson had to stop knowing the results. Basil was dead! While Esmeralda hugged Dawson, Clopin patted him on the shoulder. The three of them looked to Basil upset. But just then Dawson remembered something.
"His wedding gift," he remembered.
From his pocket, Dawson took out a little bag that had a syringe. He took it out and punctured Basil's chest with the needle, then pulled it out. Dawson, Esmeralda, and Clopin waited.
It was until a few seconds that Basil opened his eyes, as if in horror, and started screaming. He stood up and ran across the room, still yelling. Esmeralda and Dawson stood up and looked to Basil surprised but Clopin was disgusted. Dawson walked to Basil.
"You ate all the cheese," Basil growled. "All of Mrs. Judson's cheese ingredients were gone because of you. The satanic bat, Fidget, was there and turned on me! Dawson, what have you run through me?"
"Your wedding present for Mary and I," said Dawson.
"Who's been dancing on my chest!"
"Me. Sit down."
Dawson helped Basil to sit on a chair.
"Why is my foot so itchy?" Basil whimpered.
"A shrapnel of wood," said Dawson. "I'll have to get it out before it infects."
"You Clopin," said Basil pointing to the gypsy. "I have business for you to deliver something to the inspector. Esmeralda, we'll find your brother."
The two gypsies were looking at him concerned.
"Here, drink this," said Dawson, giving Basil a liquid.
Basil took the drink yet pointed to Dawson.
Dawson had to pull Basil's shoe off, baring his bloodied foot.
"Did you just call me 'selfish bastard'?" Basil asked.
"Probably," said Dawson.
Dawson reached down and pulled out wood shrapnel out of Basil's ankle, even though Basil did beg for him to stop. Basil winced at the pain.
"I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your honeymoon," said Basil.
"There's no need to apologize," said Dawson.
"We're going home."
Esmeralda looked to Dawson with raised eyebrows.
"Via Switzerland."
